Ohm Force Unveils Bohm Dual-Voice Kick Synthesizer

The new Eurorack module offers versatile sound options for musicians and producers.

Ohm Force, a French company known for its innovative audio plugins, is making waves in the hardware world with its latest release at Superbooth 2025. The company has unveiled the Ohm Force Bohm, a new stereo dual-voice kick synthesizer designed for Eurorack systems. This versatile module promises to enhance the sonic possibilities for musicians and producers alike.

The Bohm system consists of the primary kick voice module, aptly named Bohm, and two optional expanders: Bohm: Groove and Bohm: Performer. The main module, which measures 18HP, features a microSD card reader capable of reading Ohm Force Interchange File Format (OIFF) files. Each of these files contains a unique kick machine circuit or "model," allowing users to explore a variety of sounds and textures.

Among the available models are FM-2X, a two-operator FM kick model; HZ-1, which features a wavetable kick drum with a unique transient synthesizer; and PM-K1, a physical modeling kick drum. Other models include PX-3, designed for hard techno with a complex wavetable and sampler; SP-6, which utilizes digital waveforms; and XT-88, which allows users to load their own wavetables and samples.

Each model is equipped with a range of parameters, providing users with the flexibility to tweak and customize their sounds. The Bohm module includes controls for HIT CV, LENGTH, and SUSTAIN, which manages the kick's perceived volume. Users can also achieve classic sounds reminiscent of the iconic 808 and 909 drum machines by adjusting the oscillator pitch curve.

"The Bohm looks like a very powerful kick synth voice that offers tons of options," said a spokesperson for Ohm Force. "We believe it’s one of the most comprehensive kick modules ever released in Eurorack."

In addition to the main module, the Bohm: Groove expander adds a secondary kick voice, allowing users to create intricate grooves around the primary kick. This 10HP module can be triggered using clock divisions, and it features hands-on parameters for volume, length, and effects. Its TAPS CV input allows for control over multiple parameters, making it a valuable tool for live performance.

The Bohm: Performer, an 8HP mixer module, enhances the setup further by mixing both kick voices and providing stereo processing for external audio. It includes sidechain ducking and performance effects, such as DJ-style high-pass and low-pass filters, beat roll, and slip roll. All these features are designed to give performers more control during live sets.

On the technical side, the Ohm Force Bohm modules operate at a 48kHz audio sample rate and utilize 24-bit hardware audio converters. With 32-bit floating point internal processing and true stereo audio, the modules promise high-fidelity sound. The use of Texas Instruments Burr-Brown audio converters further ensures quality performance.

Pricing for the Ohm Force Bohm system has been set at €369 for the main module, €139 for the Bohm: Groove expander, and €99 for the Bohm: Performer. All prices include VAT in Europe. The entire system is expected to hit the market in June 2025, and interested buyers can preview the modules at Superbooth 2025, specifically at booth W255.

Musicians and producers are eagerly anticipating the release, as the Bohm system appears to cater to a wide range of genres, particularly techno. With its impressive array of features and sound design capabilities, the Ohm Force Bohm could become a staple in many studios and live setups.

For more information, potential buyers will need to wait until May 8, 2025, when the Bohm product page goes live, coinciding with the start of Superbooth.
