Odisha Chief Minister invites Spanish firms to explore collaborations in renewable energy and textiles.

Bhubaneswar, Apr 19 (PTI) - Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Spanish Ambassador Juan Antonio March Pujol on Saturday to explore investment opportunities in key sectors such as metallurgy, renewable energy, and textiles. This meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between Odisha and Spain, with both parties expressing a keen interest in establishing long-term technology-led partnerships.

During the high-level discussions held at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi highlighted Odisha's rapid growth as one of India's preferred investment destinations. He noted the state's proactive policies and skilled workforce as major advantages for potential investors. "Odisha is poised for significant industrial growth, and we welcome Spanish companies to explore the myriad opportunities available here," he stated.

Ambassador Pujol expressed Spain's commitment to fostering long-term collaborations, particularly in metallurgy and refractory solutions. He emphasized the importance of technology in developing these sectors, which are crucial for both nations. The discussions also spotlighted the recent investment by TIMAB Magnesium India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Groupe Roullier, which is setting up a ₹90 crore refractory manufacturing unit in Khurda. This project is expected to create over 300 jobs, further contributing to the local economy.

In addition to metallurgy, the talks focused heavily on renewable energy. CM Majhi invited major Spanish energy firms, including Siemens Gamesa, Acciona, and Iberdrola, to invest in Odisha's burgeoning renewable energy sector. He urged them to consider establishing solar parks, offshore wind projects, and green hydrogen initiatives in the state. The Odisha government is particularly keen on leveraging Spanish expertise in floating solar and energy storage technologies as part of its commitment to a green energy transition.

Majhi's presentation also included details of Odisha's new Renewable Energy Policy, which aims to attract significant investments in sustainable energy solutions. "We are committed to fostering a green transition and are open to innovative solutions that can help us achieve our renewable energy goals," he remarked.

In the textile sector, the Chief Minister extended invitations to renowned Spanish apparel brands such as ZARA, Desigual, and Mango. He encouraged these brands to explore opportunities for establishing sourcing hubs and joint innovation centers within Odisha's integrated textile parks. The state's favorable policies and skilled workforce were highlighted as key factors that make it an attractive destination for international apparel brands.

Both Majhi and Pujol expressed optimism about strengthening industrial, technological, and cultural ties between Odisha and Spain. The meeting laid the groundwork for a new chapter of collaboration, with both sides keen to explore various avenues for partnership.

As the discussions concluded, Pujol remarked, "Spain is excited about the prospects of working closely with Odisha. We believe that our technological expertise can complement Odisha's growth ambitions, particularly in renewable energy and advanced manufacturing sectors." This sentiment was echoed by Majhi, who noted that such collaborations could lead to mutual benefits and significant advancements in both regions.

The meeting also served to reaffirm Odisha's commitment to building high-value partnerships with Spain, as officials from both sides look forward to further discussions and potential agreements in the near future. With the global economy increasingly leaning towards sustainable practices, the focus on renewable energy and technology-driven solutions is more relevant than ever.

As Odisha continues to position itself as a key player in India's industrial landscape, the collaboration with Spain could pave the way for innovative projects and investments that not only benefit the local economy but also contribute to global sustainability efforts.
