Odakyu Electric Railway Suspends Train Services Amid Snow Forecast

The company halts four Romancecar trains to prioritize passenger safety due to expected winter weather.

Odakyu Electric Railway announced today the suspension of operations for four of its Romancecar limited express trains due to forecasted snowfall on March 4, 2025. The trains affected by this decision will not operate between Odawara and Hakone-Yumoto, marking significant inconvenience for travelers hoping to reach the popular tourist destination.

Specifically, the trains set to be suspended include the "Home Way 1" which was scheduled to depart from Shinjuku at 5 PM, the "Home Way 5" leaving at 6 PM, the "Hakone 6" departing from Hakone-Yumoto at 6:36 PM, and the "Hakone 8" set for 7:50 PM. These trains would have originated from Odawara at approximately 6:52 PM and 8:07 PM, respectively, on the same day.

Speaking on the matter, an Odakyu Electric Railway spokesperson stated, "We are suspending these limited express trains to prioritize the safety of our passengers amid the snow forecast." The decision reinforces the company's commitment to safety first, as inclement weather poses risks for rail operations.

Besides the Romancecar service suspensions, the railway company has indicated there may be delays on other trains as they adjust speeds for safe operation. It is important for passengers to note these potential disruptions as they plan their journeys, ensuring they allow for extra travel time.

Fortunately, the company plans to resume normal operations starting from the first train on March 5, 2025, provided the weather allows for safe travel conditions. Railway officials remain hopeful for clearer skies by the following day, enabling passengers to enjoy their trips without disruption.

Travelers are advised to keep an eye on updates from Odakyu Electric Railway as conditions may change. Those planning to utilize the Romancecar service or any train heading to Hakone-Yumoto are encouraged to check the official website for real-time information about their services and any alternative travel arrangements available.

With the possibility of snow creating challenging conditions for transport, the proactive measures taken by Odakyu Electric Railway reflect the broader industry practices aimed at protecting passengers and maintaining operational integrity. These anticipated weather conditions highlight the unpredictability of winter travel, particularly for areas frequented by tourists. Safety precautions during such times must remain high on the agenda as both operators and passengers navigate the inherent challenges presented by winter weather.
