Nygren Nears Celtic Move With Isak Praising Fearless Talent

Benjamin Nygren’s transfer to Celtic edges closer as the versatile Swedish winger gains praise from teammate Alexander Isak and prepares to boost the Hoops’ attacking options this summer

Benjamin Nygren's move to Celtic is rapidly gaining momentum as the Swedish winger edges closer to joining the Scottish champions in a deal reportedly worth £1.7 million. The 23-year-old, currently with Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, is entering the final six months of his contract, allowing Celtic to negotiate favorable terms to secure his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

Nygren has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Denmark’s Superliga, netting 15 goals in 30 league appearances and 16 in 32 across all competitions last season. His impressive form helped Nordsjaelland push near the top end of the table and caught the eye of Sweden’s national team coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, who handed him his senior international debut earlier this year.

The young winger made his debut in a surprising defeat to Luxembourg in March 2025 but quickly bounced back by scoring in a commanding 5-1 victory over Northern Ireland just days later. His rapid rise on the international stage has not gone unnoticed, especially by Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who has been vocal in his praise of the Celtic target.

Isak, who played alongside Nygren for Sweden against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, described him as a "fearless player who has a lot of confidence." He added, "It was very good to play with Benjamin. I really enjoyed it. It’s clear he is a fearless player who has a lot of confidence. Playing with a winger like that who is able to provide good crosses can only be beneficial for someone like me. I think he did incredibly well in the two games and it was a nice boost for him that he was also able to score his goal too." (RecordSport)

Nygren’s versatility is a significant asset for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who is keen to inject fresh energy and creativity into the squad. The winger can play across multiple attacking positions—on the right wing, where he would compete with Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest, as an advanced midfielder to fill the creative void left by Matt O’Riley, and even on the left side, especially with Jota expected to miss much of the first half of the upcoming season.

This flexibility adds an element of unpredictability to Celtic’s attack, something Rodgers values highly as he looks to maintain the club's domestic dominance and push further in European competitions. Nygren’s technical ability and leadership qualities also make him a promising prospect. At just 23, he already captains his club and has shown maturity both on and off the pitch.

Nygren himself has spoken about his ambitions and what drew him to Celtic, emphasizing the club's Champions League football as a major factor. "The last two years I have shown that I have taken the next step in my career, become a regular starter and I feel I have delivered at a high level for a long time. I have developed a lot – not only on the tactical levels, but also as a player on the pitch and as a leader. I am 23 years old and a captain already, which says a lot. My leadership skills are something that I have developed greatly. I have always seen myself as someone who wants to lead and wants to show others and set a good example both on and off the field," Nygren said.

He added, "Playing in the Europa Conference League where I scored a hat-trick against Fenerbahce, was a big boost to my confidence and my dream is to play in the Champions League. I make no secret of the fact that I have high ambitions and want to play in the best leagues and play in the Champions League. And if you want to play in the biggest tournaments, you probably have to take the move forward from here."

Celtic has already made a strong start to the summer transfer window, signing Kieran Tierney on a five-year contract after his Arsenal deal expired. The club’s swift progress in securing Nygren’s services underscores their intent to reinforce key positions early, especially with other European clubs reportedly interested in the Swedish star.

On June 13, 2025, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph confirmed that Celtic and FC Nordsjaelland had reached an agreement over Nygren’s transfer, with the fee expected to be around £1.7 million. Talks are believed to be progressing smoothly, and the deal could be finalized by the start of the summer window on June 16.

Nygren’s arrival at Celtic Park promises to add a new dynamic to the Hoops’ attacking options, blending youthful exuberance with proven goal-scoring ability. His blend of technical skill, versatility, and leadership aligns perfectly with Rodgers’ vision for a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

As Celtic prepares for the upcoming season, the addition of a player like Nygren could prove pivotal. With his confidence bolstered by international experience and a standout Europa Conference League performance, the Swedish winger is poised to make an immediate impact in Glasgow.

While the transfer is not yet officially completed, all signs point toward Nygren becoming the latest in a line of exciting signings aimed at maintaining Celtic’s supremacy in Scottish football and enhancing their European ambitions. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the confirmation of the deal and the chance to see Nygren take to the pitch in the famous green and white hoops.
