NVIDIA Launches DLSS 4, 75 Games Supported

New technology promises to revolutionize gaming performance with Multi Frame Generation and advanced features.

NVIDIA has officially unveiled its latest graphics technology, DLSS 4, at CES 2025, promising to revolutionize gaming performance with the introduction of Multi Frame Generation. The announcement highlights support for 75 games and applications at launch, primarily for the upcoming GeForce RTX 50 Series of GPUs. This move marks yet another significant step forward for NVIDIA, continuing its legacy of enhancing gaming experiences through cutting-edge technology.

DLSS 4 introduces Multi Frame Generation, which is exclusive to the new RTX 50 Series and is heralded as a game-changing feature. This technology enables the generation of up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame, making for extraordinarily smooth gameplay. NVIDIA claims this boost can multiply frame rates by as much as eight times compared to conventional brute-force rendering techniques, all without compromising latency, which according to NVIDIA will be similar to previous iterations of DLSS.

The RTX 50 Series consists of powerful new GPUs, including the flagship RTX 5090, priced at $1999, and the mid-range RTX 5070, offering performance levels comparably to the RTX 4090 at $549. NVIDIA is set to release these models early in 2025, and with them, gamers can anticipate significant performance upgrades across the board.

This latest iteration of DLSS technology continues to build on NVIDIA’s reputation for providing the best visual experience, now supporting over 700 titles. With the launch of DLSS 4 and the RTX 50 Series GPUs, titles like Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Diablo IV are at the forefront of this expansive upgrade, all set to utilize the new technology. Some other notable mentions include Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Ray tracing also receives considerable attention with DLSS 4. NVIDIA’s AI-powered image reconstruction technology aims to accelerate frame rates without sacrificing detail, particularly within ray-traced games. The latest enhancements to ray tracing will provide developers with the necessary tools to create more detailed and immersive gameplay experiences, which NVIDIA showcases through the improved capabilities of various titles.

According to Billy Khan, Director of Engine Technology at id Software, "With DLSS 4, we are stepping to the new era of gaming. The new ray reconstruction transformer model powers a historical leap in ray tracing capabilities; not just accelerating performance but also enhancing visuals." This kind of endorsement from developers highlights the anticipated improvements the technology will yield.

Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom, echoed this excitement, stating, "GeForce RTX 50 Series and DLSS 4 mark the beginning of a new generation of games." This statement emphasizes the innovative leap forward for the gaming industry, particularly for game developers eager to leverage the latest advancements.

Performance-wise, DLSS 4 provides backward compatibility with older RTX models, ensuring earlier generation GPU owners will not be left behind. The updated Frame Generation technology is set to not only improve memory usage but also maintain visual fidelity across all compatible games. Even the RTX 20 and RTX 30 Series GPUs will see improvements from the technology introduced with DLSS 4, as NVIDIA continues to optimize its transitions and updates.

Mika Vehkala, Chief Technology Officer at Remedy Entertainment, stated, "With DLSS 4 and GeForce RTX 50 Series we are seeing significant performance gains which enable us to create new game worlds larger and more detailed than ever." This sentiment surely resonates with many gamers who are eager for expansive and immersive worlds to explore, and this technology promises to deliver on those desires.

The excitement leading up to the release of these GPUs and their corresponding technologies is palpable, not just among consumers but also within the gaming development community. The upcoming gaming benchmarks and comparisons are set to showcase the true potential of DLSS 4, which promises to deliver enhanced performance levels.”

With the RTX 50 Series on the horizon, NVIDIA enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the arrival of new tech capabilities. The introduction of DLSS Multi Frame Generation will likely redefine standards for smooth and visually stunning gameplay, as the company gears up to make history once again with its innovative contributions to the gaming industry. Gamers are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for more updates following the promising previews shared at CES 2025.
