NVIDIA has just rolled out some big updates to its GeForce NOW cloud streaming service, making it even more appealing to gamers. Not only has the middle tier, previously called Priority, gotten a shiny new name – it's now dubbed the Performance tier – but it also boasts some pretty impressive enhancements.
One of the highlights of this upgrade is the improved visual fidelity, which now allows resolutions as high as 1440p and even ultrawide formats, features once exclusive to the Ultimate tier. Previously, users on the Priority tier were limited to 1080p. Fortunately, for existing users, NVIDIA is automatically upgrading all Priority members to the new Performance level so they can immediately take advantage of these enhancements without needing to lift a finger.
But there's more! NVIDIA has decided to implement limitations on playtime for tier members. Both the Performance and Ultimate tiers will now have a cap of 100 hours of gameplay each month. This might raise some eyebrows, but NVIDIA claims 94% of GeForce NOW gamers typically stay within this limit, and this change aims to help reduce long queues and maintain high service quality for everyone.
For those wondering how to keep track, don’t worry. Users can monitor their playtime via their account portal, and unused hours can roll over — up to 15 hours — to the following month. If gamers find themselves needing more playtime, they can purchase extra hours; it costs $2.99 for 15 additional hours on the Performance tier or $5.99 on the Ultimate tier.
The good news doesn’t stop there. Current paid subscribers as of December 31, 2024, will be able to maintain their unlimited playtime until January 2026, as long as they keep their subscriptions active. This means they can enjoy gaming without interruption, even with the introduction of limits for new subscribers.
Add to this mix some exciting new games as well. NVIDIA has recently introduced several PC titles to the GeForce NOW library, including Planet Coaster 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, and Empire of the Ants, among others. Many of these games are newly supported by DLSS 3, like the aforementioned Planet Coaster 2 and Kristala, which is currently available in Early Access.
NVIDIA is also showcasing new enhancements for popular titles, such as Silent Hill 2 and DUCKSIDE, which now feature Frame Generation technology. This is part of NVIDIA's continued effort to improve the gaming experience by pushing the limits of what cloud gaming can provide.
Looking forward, the updates to GeForce NOW signify NVIDIA's commitment to improving its service and adapting to the ever-changing demands of gamers. With the upgrades to visual fidelity, the introduction of a playtime cap, and new titles added to the library, NVIDIA is clearly aiming to make GeForce NOW one of the best options for gamers who want to enjoy high-quality cloud streaming.
