The Nuits de Fourvière festival is set to return, promising culture and entertainment to the Lyonnais community. Running from June 2 to July 26, 2025, this year’s festival aims to bring audiences to their feet, as noted by co-directors Vincent Anglade and Emmanuelle Durand: "We promise you will dance a lot this year at Nuits de Fourvière." This cultural landmark will take place primarily at the historic Théâtre Antique de Lyon with various performances and activities scheduled throughout the city.
Despite experiencing reduced financial support due to decreased subsidies from the Métropole de Lyon, which has cut the budget by €278,000, the festival’s lineup promises to shine brightly. Significant acts such as Kool & The Gang, Cypress Hill, Franz Ferdinand, Jorja Smith, and Jean-Louis Aubert are confirmed. These artists represent both national and international talent, showcasing the festival's commitment to diverse programming.
Among the exciting events are performances from The Libertines, Clara Luciani, and Feu! Chatterton, each bringing their unique styles to the stage. Also appearing are the stunning La Femme, and Oxmo Puccino, setting the tone for an engaging summer filled with music lovers and dance enthusiasts.
Artistic variety remains at the heart of Nuits de Fourvière with over 140 performances planned, including 77 theater, cabaret, and magic shows, 15 circus acts, and 10 dance events. This eclectic mixture reflects the festival’s aim to cater to every taste. The unique Lyon Street Food Festival also plays as the official catering partner for the 'Samedis des Nuits', ensuring visitors enjoy delightful culinary offerings alongside the captivating performances.
Added attractions include Le Village Magique, where attendees can explore the fascinating world of magic through the lens of ten talented magicians at the public lycée of Saint-Just. Also, the Transbordeur is set to host Mehdi Kerkouche's immersive party experience, enhancing the festival’s energy and engagement.
Particularly noteworthy is the artistic focus on dance this year, marked by Benjamin Millepied’s performance of GRACE - Jeff Buckley Dances, which intertwines the late rock star's music with expressive dance. The festival also showcases Hofesh Shechter’s acclaimed Political Mother, promising to captivate audiences with its powerful commentary and vibrant choreography.
Israel Galván brings his unique interpretation of Carmen to the festival, accompanied by the Orchestre National de Lyon, blending opera and contemporary dance to create something truly extraordinary. This will take place on June 26, 2025, enhancing the festival’s artistic reputation.
Comedy also finds its place this year, featuring renowned performers like Vincent Dedienne from June 4 to 6, committing to entertain with his humorous twist. Meanwhile, Cirque Queer will celebrate the fusion of traditional circus arts with modern performance styles between June 12 to 20, alongside the spectacular Nuit Flamboyante cabaret on June 14th.
To facilitate access to this incredible array of performances, the ticket office will open on March 19, 2025, at noon. Everyone eager for the experience is encouraged to purchase tickets early and secure their spot at this anticipated event.
The Nuits de Fourvière festival stands as a resilient cultural beacon for the city, enhancing its artistic offerings even amid budget constraints. The integration of magic, dance, and much-lauded music symbolizes not only the festival's dedication to celebrating arts but also the spirit of community engagement. This year promises to be exceptional, inviting both artists and audiences to convene and create magical moments together.
