NTT East Japan Launches AI Security Camera Service

New AI service aims to automatically detect anomalies in real-time for commercial facilities and enhance public safety.

In a significant advancement for security technology, NTT East Japan, in collaboration with Asilla, is set to launch an AI-powered service called the "Giga-Raku Camera Image Analysis Option MIMAMORI AI" on March 31, 2025. This innovative service aims to enhance safety in commercial facilities by using cloud-based AI technology to automatically detect anomalies in security camera footage.

The announcement, made on March 21, 2025, is a result of a strategic partnership formed on January 29, 2025, between NTT East Japan, which has marketed the cloud-based security camera "Giga-Raku Camera" since April 2016, and Asilla, a company renowned for its AI-based image analysis technology. NTT East Japan has successfully sold approximately 145,000 units of the Giga-Raku Camera to date, establishing a strong foothold in the security market.

The MIMAMORI AI service incorporates advanced image analysis techniques developed by Asilla, enhancing traditional security camera functions that primarily recorded footage for later review. This real-time analysis capability enables the immediate detection of suspicious and abnormal behaviors, representing a proactive shift in security measures.

According to NTT East Japan, "The service aims to prevent incidents and accidents by detecting anomalies that might lead to troubles, using advanced image analysis technology." This proactive approach is especially vital given increasing labor shortages and a rising demand for enhanced public safety. The partnership seeks to address various social issues stemming from these challenges.

The MIMAMORI AI utilizes an action recognition AI based on the skeleton estimation method, allowing it to analyze human posture and movements effectively. This innovative approach enables the system to recognize detailed actions, such as falling or wandering, facilitating timely alerts to security personnel. As Asilla noted, "This technology allows for real-time analysis of movements and enables effective preventative measures against potential security issues."

This service is designed primarily for medium-sized facilities, unmanned stores such as coin laundries, public amenities, and care facilities. Such venues often struggle with the financial and logistical challenges of implementing comprehensive in-person security measures. By simply installing the Giga-Raku Camera, operators can access the MIMAMORI AI service, managing detection data via the cloud and enabling remote monitoring and centralized management across multiple sites.

The pricing model for this service is set to be cost-effective, with the "Standard Plan" priced at 14,850 yen per month per camera. This plan allows for the detection of various actions such as violence, falling, and potential disturbances. Additionally, an optional security enhancement function is available for 1,980 yen per camera per month, enabling detection of bicycles, skateboards, and other specific behaviors. Initial setup costs will include 16,500 yen per site group and 1,650 yen per camera.

By integrating advanced AI technology with traditional security monitor capabilities, NTT East Japan and its partners are addressing a growing need for real-time monitoring solutions. The potential use cases for this technology are broad, including preventing accidents in facilities such as escalators and detecting unwarranted behaviors in unmanned locations.

Furthermore, this service not only contributes to security but also offers opportunities for marketing applications, helping facility managers gauge visitor traffic and analyze visitor demographics, such as estimated age and gender.

As the world faces increasing challenges associated with security and human resource shortages, solutions like the MIMAMORI AI stand out as promising developments in the realm of safety technology. The collaboration between NTT East Japan, Asilla, and NTT DOCOMO Ventures exemplifies an actionable response to contemporary security challenges, paving the way for enhanced safety measures across various sectors.
