Nostalgia Meets Innovation: Trending Cars Of 2025

From electric vehicles to nostalgic revivals, car models capture public interest once again.

Automakers are racing to capture consumer attention, and this time, it's not through recalls or mismanagement. A recent analysis by Edmunds utilizing Google Trends has unveiled which car models are igniting interest among potential buyers. The results reveal not just the usual suspects but also anticipated comebacks and innovations from established brands, offering enthusiasts and families alike something to talk about.

The standout of the findings is the Honda Prelude, marking its anticipated return as a hybrid model set for 2026 after nearly 25 years of absence. This nostalgic nameplate, beloved by fans for its sporty design, is gearing up to re-enter the market with modern technological advances, aiming to compete with increasingly powerful rivals from brands like Hyundai and Ford. "While coupes have steadily disappeared, the Prelude’s return symbolizes hope for car enthusiasts," says Alex O’Malley, a spokesperson for Edmunds.

Chevrolet also captured the public’s imagination with whispers of the Impala’s revival — albeit not officially confirmed. Digital artists are busy illustrating their visions of what this classic nameplate could look like, responding to long-held hopes from die-hard fans. Historical recollections of the Impala’s success during the 1960s only fuel this enthusiasm, even as the market for four-door muscle cars seems less likely today.

Following closely is the 2026 redesign of the Honda Passport. Initially reintroduced based on quirky 1990s models, today’s Passport has evolved significantly. The upcoming third generation will sport more rugged styling and enhanced technology, including a substantial 12.3-inch touchscreen, as Honda's take on off-road SUVs aligns with consumer preferences for both style and functionality.

Among the resurgence of classic designs, the reinvigorated 2025 Jeep Wagoneer is drawing significant attention. Interest surged by 188% following news of substantial price cuts of up to $7,000, alongside enhancements to features, making this luxurious SUV accessible to more families. Originally popular before the SUV craze, the Wagoneer’s modern iteration boasts all modern conveniences, ensuring it caters to both nostalgia and contemporary expectations.

Meanwhile, the electric revolution continues to gain traction, with the F-150 Lightning taking the lead as the top-trending electric vehicle. Interest for this model increased by over 25%. Combining the characteristics fans love from the traditional F-150 with the capabilities of electric motors, the Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds and accelerates impressively, hitting 60 mph in just four seconds. It's this blend of practicality and innovation, along with the unique proposition of powering homes during outages, that's gathering consumer interest.

Chevrolet's latest offering, the Equinox EV, has also caught the eye, thanks to its appealing design and price point. With a range exceeding 356 miles, this model stands out as an entry point for those new to electric vehicles, combining stylish aesthetics with environmentally friendly technology.

Interest for Tesla's Model Y remained high as well, climbing by 15%, likely due to scheduled updates set for early 2025. Anticipation surrounds potential enhancements, including improvements to interior quality and added range, as Tesla continues to dominate the electric SUV market.

Another noteworthy mention is the Hyundai Kona, which saw interest surge by 100% after its redesign for 2024. This versatile vehicle combines affordability and modern design, making it appealing to budget-conscious consumers without sacrificing style or functionality.

Finally, the Chevrolet Suburban, America’s long-standing favorite family SUV, rounded out the top five trending vehicles with interest increasing by 144%. A refresh for the 2025 model incorporated significant updates, including a gigantic 17.7-inch touchscreen, making it more competitive among the current generation of full-sized SUVs.

Surprising many, the Toyota Sienna also showed resurgence with an impressive 83% uptick. Positioning itself as one of the top choices among remaining minivans, it uniquely offers only hybrid technology, boasting great fuel efficiency, achieving up to 42.7 mpg.

This snapshot of rising trends reflects not only consumer nostalgia and enthusiasm for classic models but also the increasing demand for innovative electric vehicles and versatile family options. With innovations and revivals on the horizon, it seems the automotive industry is doing its best to keep both old fans and new buyers engaged.
