Northrop Grumman Launches Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission

Partnership with Space Norway aims to boost communication and connectivity in the Arctic region

On August 12, 2024, the Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission (ASBM) took off successfully from Vandenberg Space Force Base, marking a significant step toward enhancing connectivity in the Arctic region.

Northrop Grumman played a key role by providing main components like the Enhanced Polar System – Recapitalization (EPS-R) secure communication payloads, and the complete Control and Planning Segment (CAPS) ground system.

Operating the Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission will be critical as it will function within a highly elliptical orbit to maximize connection capabilities across this harsh terrain.

The payload also includes communication systems for other entities like the Norwegian Ministry of Defense and Viasat.
