Nockherberg 2025: Celebrated Starkbierprobe Set For March 12

Maximilian Schafroth returns for the Fastenpredigt at Munich's famed event, blending beer with political humor.

The annual Starkbierprobe at the Nockherberg is not just a beer tasting; it’s one of Bavaria’s brightest highlights of political satire, eagerly anticipated every year. This year, on March 12, 2025, the traditional event focuses on humorously critiquing prominent politicians, set against the backdrop of rich Bavarian culture.

This potent cocktail of politics and entertainment kicks off at 19:00 at the Paulaner Brewery, with the festivities estimated to last until around 22:00. This year's Fastenpredigt will once again be delivered by Maximilian Schafroth, who is stepping onto the podium for the fifth consecutive year. Known for his witty take on current issues, Schafroth has promised to explore delicate topics with humor. "I will show this year how one can also have a certain looseness even with more difficult topics," he stated, as reported by Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Guests will witness the Singspiel titled 'Ein Wadl für Deutschland,' written by seasoned authors Richard Oehmann and Stefan Betz, who are known for their ability to weave current political events and social commentary seamlessly through humor. "We will reveal little but enough about the upcoming Singspiel to get everyone curious!" said Betz. They creatively adjust the program due to the recent Bundestagswahl, ensuring it resonates with the audience.

With around 600 invitees, including leading politicians like Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder, his deputy Hubert Aiwanger, and others, the stage is set for another thrilling night of laughter and social critique. One of this year’s exciting new elements is the participation of actress Eli Wasserscheid, who will portray Dorothee Bär, marking her debut on the Nockherberg stage.

Last year, the Starkbierprobe drew over 2.6 million viewers, underlining its status as must-watch television across Germany. It stands as an event where attendees and viewers alike see themselves reflected through satire, with politicians often portrayed by talented actors whose renditions are humorous yet impactful.

The event is characterized by its vibrant and colorful set, which will showcase typical Bavarian motifs and symbols. A grand lion wearing a crown, along with elements like pretzels and sketches of famous figures like King Ludwig II, will adorn the stage, setting the perfect ambiance for the evening.

Many celebrities, including musician Mark Forster and actress Michaela May, are expected to grace the guest list, adding glamour to the occasion. The Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) will broadcast the entire event live, promoting widespread engagement through traditional TV and online streaming. The transmission begins at 19:00 and is set to continue with intriguing follow-up segments until 0:30 the next day.

On March 15, viewers can also catch the repeat broadcast, allowing for those who miss the live airing to still participate vicariously through the screen. It is clear from every detail shared by the BR and the event's organizers, both anticipation and excitement are high for the unique blend of festive revelry and verbal sparring.

Looking back at previous years, the Nockherberg has evolved from merely political ridicule to become an engaging platform where societal discussions take place through art and comedy. Many past Fastenprediger, including the beloved Luise Kinseher, have left their mark on the stage, each bringing their own flair to the tradition.

And with actors trained to mimic politicians skillfully, audiences are bound to bond over shared laughter as their favorite political personalities get playfully roasted.
"After all, who doesn’t enjoy some verbal ribbing now and then?" remarked Schafroth, hinting at the playful battles waiting to unfurl on stage this coming March 12.

Therefore, this year's Starkbierprobe promises to be another remarkable evening filled with the spritz and sparkle of generous Bavarian beer enjoyed alongside sharp-witted commentary from the voice of satire on the Nockherberg. Make sure to tune in whether you’re at home or lucky enough to be among the invited, because when the Starkbier flows, fun is sure to follow!
