Nippon Television Set To Premiere New Love Mystery Drama

Koi wa Yami dives deep with suspenseful twists amid chilling murders and romance.

With anticipation building, Nippon Television has announced the start of its new love mystery drama, “Koi wa Yami,” set to premiere on April 16, 2025, at 10:00 PM, and featuring double leads Kento Hayashi and Yuki Kaji.

The show promises to deliver thrilling storytelling, illustrated through the lives of two journalists entangled both professionally and romantically as they cover a chilling series of murders occurring within the city. This original script, penned by the renowned Mako Watanabe, aims to provide viewers with not only suspense but also reflections on the intricacies of trust and love.

Hayashi takes on the role of Hakuto, the handyman freelance writer who quickly becomes entangled in the investigation of the murders, leading him to cross paths with Miki, the information program director portrayed by Kaji. Their emotional ups and downs will frame the story as they struggle with trust issues amid mounting suspicions.

Joining Hayashi and Kaji are seven newly announced cast members who will undoubtedly add to the depth of this compelling narrative. Kiyohiko Tanaka stars as Kota Noada, the ambitious general director of Miki's show, “Morning Flash.” He is depicted as a god-like presence on set, yet willful and aggressive, stirring up tension with Miki's team.

Kuramae Saki portrays Sanae Kumamae, the dedicated producer of “Morning Flash,” embodying the delicate balance between being supportive and managing the chaos from Noada's directives. Meanwhile, Yuta Hamano steps onto the scene as Megumi Matsuoka, working within the Metropolitan Police Department of Marubu East, delving deep at the crime scenes.

Kureha Matsukage takes on the role of Kayoda Owada, another detective involved with the case. Not to be overlooked, Ayumu Mochizuki will be seen as Yuzuki Natsuyagi, the food delivery worker whose interactions with Miki propel various subplots throughout the series.

Young talent Tiger Nosuke Kobayashi plays Harumichi Kinoshita, Miki's junior director, adding yet another layer of dynamic to the team behind the show. The third newcomer, Reiya Makimara, will appear as the shadowy figure representing more of the drama's concealed mysteries.

With positions at prominent television networks, the drama brings forth themes of love, deception, and the constant struggle for the truth, depicting how the line blurs between love and crime.

Tanaka expressed enthusiasm over his character, stating, “Is he really the good boss or the bad boss for Miki, the female lead? This shooting experience is going to reflect real scenes, creating authentic moments onscreen.” The interaction between character roles and the scenarios they're placed within promises to resonate deeply with viewers.

Hamano added insight on his character's persona as he steps behind the lens, commenting, “The script is incredibly captivating, and I can’t wait to portray someone who has such unique quirks, especially when it involves pressing issues such as murder.”

Further contributing to the integrity of the storyline is Matsukage, who is eager to present Kayoda Owada as someone who has seen it all, merging her enthusiasm for character portrayal with the overarching suspense of the drama.

Mochizuki, on the other hand, highlights the vibrancy of her character and predicts heartwarming dynamics with others, particularly with her relationship to detective Owada. “I want to make Yuzuki someone everyone will love to root for,” she expressed.

Kobayashi shared his excitement about meeting the characters, signaling the building tension present. The character’s development, crafted through script and director, is pledged to create complex storytelling full of unexpected twists.

Viewers can expect not only thrilling mysteries but also moments of reflection as they resonate with personal experiences tied to romance and discernment. With more updates as the premiere date approaches, Nippon Television is poised for one of 2025's most engaging dramas.
