Nintendo has issued a warning about phishing emails related to the lottery results for its upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch 2, on April 24, 2025. The company clarified that as of the time of the announcement, it had not yet sent out any lottery results.
The Nintendo Switch 2, which is set to be released on June 5, 2025, is the successor to the original Nintendo Switch. This new console will retain features such as both handheld and docked play modes while boasting enhanced CPU and GPU performance, improved screen resolution, and frame rates. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers will be detachable and magnetically attachable, offering functionality similar to a mouse.
On the same day, Nintendo's online store, My Nintendo Store, was undergoing emergency maintenance, which began around 1:15 PM. The maintenance was notably timed with the announcement of the first lottery results for the Switch 2, which were scheduled to be revealed later that afternoon.
As anticipation built among gamers eager for the lottery results, Nintendo's official support account on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the existence of phishing emails disguised as announcements of the lottery results. The company urged users to remain vigilant, stating, "We have confirmed the existence of phishing emails purporting to be the results of the Nintendo Switch 2 lottery sales. The lottery results are scheduled to be sent out today via email, but they have not yet been dispatched. Any emails received up until this point are not from us." This warning was issued as late as 7:20 PM on April 24, 2025.
In the lead-up to the lottery results, Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, revealed that approximately 2.2 million applications had been submitted in Japan alone for the first lottery sale at My Nintendo Store. Given the overwhelming interest, many applicants are expected to be disappointed as the number of units available will not meet the demand.
To combat the rise of phishing scams, Nintendo advised users to carefully check the sender’s address and the content of any emails they receive. If anything seems suspicious, they recommend verifying information through the official Nintendo website or their support channels.
In addition to the lottery at My Nintendo Store, AEON has also announced lottery applications for the Switch 2, which began on April 24, 2025. The lottery results for AEON Kyushu will be announced on May 24, 2025, with a purchase period from June 5 to June 11, 2025.
In AEON Hokkaido, only iAEON app members who registered before March 2025 and have a purchase record from January to March can apply. The lottery results will also be announced on May 24, 2025, with a purchase period from June 5 to June 8, 2025.
