Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Set To Unveil Exciting Details

Fans anticipate price, release date, and new games in upcoming Nintendo showcase

The day Nintendo fans have been waiting for is finally here. Tomorrow, the video game company will fully unveil the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, previously shown in January, in an hour-long Nintendo Direct. The event has been hyped up for quite some time, long before it was even announced. It’s poised to be a must-watch showcase, so how can you watch it and, even more so, what can we expect from Nintendo and others for games and features? Well, we at ComicBook have what you need to prepare yourself for the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, so let’s get into it!

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to air at 6 a.m. PT/ 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 2nd. To find when the event is happening for you in your time zone, use the link here. In terms of where you can watch the Nintendo Direct, it will be live-streamed on the official company YouTube and Twitch pages, linked accordingly. If you are unable to watch the Direct when it’s live, the stream will be available to watch after the showcase ends. News from the Nintendo Direct will also be shown on the newly launched Nintendo Today app.

Obviously, we will be seeing the Nintendo Switch 2 in all its glory and will finally learn about it in more depth. Fans have been hoping for 4K and HDR for the console, as well as better framerate and storage, so those details will likely be discussed. Given it’s been eight years since the original Nintendo Switch launched, we’ll definitely be seeing some modern upgrades for the console. Though, the two things fans are really excited to know about are the price and release date, which will almost certainly be revealed at the event. Rumors have floated around that it will cost $400 and launch in June, but we shall see if those are true tomorrow.

As to what could be part of it, there’s Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which we saw more footage of at last Thursday’s Nintendo Direct. There are rumors that a new Mario game could debut, possibly a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey, but it’s up in the air. However, even if they aren’t launch titles, there will likely be tons of games in attendance being revealed or shown again at the event.

Back in January, Nintendo did us all a solid and told us that the Switch 2 is real and we would hear more about it soon. "Soon" is now. Nintendo is holding a Nintendo Direct livestream at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 2 to tell us (presumably) everything we want to know about Switch 2. You will be able to watch it live on Nintendo's YouTube channel. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn't yet said how long the Direct will be, as it generally does when announcing these things. Given that Nintendo Directs are usually about 40 minutes long when there isn't a new console to show, one could reasonably assume that this one will be longer than that.

As for what to expect from the Switch 2 Direct, all we can do is speculate. It would be shocking if Nintendo didn't at least reveal the price and release date of the console during this stream. There will also be a bunch of trailers for upcoming Switch 2 games, as well as some idea of which ones will be available at launch. Aside from the new Mario Kart title that was shown briefly during the Switch 2 reveal video in January, though, it's nearly impossible to say what else will be shown during this Direct. Either way, the time is almost upon us. Get ready, folks.

With a Tomodachi Life sequel teased and the last few Switch 1 games announced, the deck is cleared for Nintendo's next video presentation on the Switch 2. The appropriately titled "Nintendo Direct: Switch 2" presentation is slated for April 2 at 9AM ET / 6AM PT, and will stream on Nintendo's YouTube channel. Thanks to the short teaser video Nintendo released in January, we already know the basic details of the Switch 2's look and feel — a larger screen, some sort of mouse functionality for the Joy-Con controllers — and we even got a glimpse at what looks like a new Mario Kart game.

Nintendo has indicated that the presentation will last about an hour, so that should be enough time to present a longer list of Switch 2 games beyond those initial fleeting seconds of a new Mario Kart. You can watch along on Nintendo's YouTube channel or right in this article once the stream goes live — and stay tuned to Engadget in the hours and days that follow for complete coverage. Watch the Nintendo Switch 2 video stream at 9AM ET on Wednesday, April 2.

Before that, check out everything we know about the Switch 2, including pre-order plans, specs, pricing and upcoming games. This week’s 60-minute Nintendo Direct will reveal details about the Switch 2. Nintendo will likely reveal the release date, price, and when customers can pre-order the system, with Switch 2 expected to launch as early as June. Switch 2 pre-orders should go live at most retailers on April 9, 2025. The price is expected to be somewhere between $399 and $449.

Nintendo added a brand-new C button to the Switch 2 Joy-Cons. There will be a new Mario Kart game. There will probably be a new Super Mario game. Mario Kart 9 would be a big deal. First details on “Switch 2 Edition” versions of games will definitely be a talking point. Select third parties like Capcom, Sega, Microsoft, and Ubisoft will get some space during the Direct to show their support for Switch 2.
