Nikolai Drozdov Loses Height Due To Osteoporosis

The famous zoologist and TV host battles serious health issues while maintaining his public presence.

Nikolai Drozdov, the renowned Soviet and Russian scientist and the beloved host of the television program "In the World of Animals," has faced significant health challenges, resulting in a notable reduction in his height. Once standing at 180 centimeters, Drozdov is now just 170 centimeters tall, a decrease of 10 centimeters attributed to a serious chronic condition known as osteoporosis.

According to the Telegram channel Mash, Drozdov was diagnosed with osteoporosis five years ago. This disease, characterized by a progressive loss of bone density and increased fragility, has caused various debilitating symptoms including joint pain, muscle cramps, sudden weight loss, and a reduction in height. Osteoporosis is often linked to a calcium deficiency, which can severely impact the skeletal structure.

Drozdov's health issues did not begin with osteoporosis. Two years ago, he suffered a severe fall near Moscow State University, which resulted in the fracturing of seven ribs. This incident was just one in a series of unfortunate events that have plagued his health; prior to this fall, he had also endured fractures to his vertebrae, hip, and clavicle. Such injuries highlight the fragility of his condition and the toll it has taken on his body.

In response to his deteriorating health, doctors have recommended that the 87-year-old television presenter engage in moderate physical activity, adhere to a strict diet, and undergo necessary therapy to manage his symptoms effectively. Despite these challenges, Drozdov has shown resilience. In December 2024, he experienced significant difficulties and was unable to get out of bed, which raised concerns about his overall health. However, he later reported feeling better and resumed engaging in sports, demonstrating his determination to maintain an active lifestyle.

In addition to his physical ailments, rumors circulated in October 2024 regarding a cancer diagnosis. Drozdov vehemently denied these claims, referring to those spreading the rumors as "scammers and gossipers." His strong response reflects not only his frustration with misinformation but also his commitment to transparency regarding his health.

Despite the successful treatment for his osteoporosis, which included chemotherapy that led to significant improvements and remission, Drozdov continues to face challenges. Reports indicate that high levels of fatigue are preventing him from returning to his teaching activities, which he had expressed a desire to resume. This fatigue is a common issue for those undergoing treatment for chronic conditions, and it poses a significant barrier to his full recovery.

Moreover, there have been concerns about a sharp deterioration in Drozdov's vision. However, these claims were quickly refuted by a close friend, indicating that while his health has been fragile, not all reports about his condition are accurate.

Drozdov's legacy as a television presenter and zoologist remains strong, having captivated audiences for decades with his knowledge and passion for the natural world. His program, "In the World of Animals," has educated and entertained viewers, making him a well-known figure in Russian media. As he navigates through these health challenges, many fans and colleagues express their support and admiration for his contributions to science and education.

As of April 2025, Drozdov's journey continues as he manages his health while remaining a prominent figure in the public eye. His story is a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. While he may be shorter in stature due to his illness, his impact and legacy in the field of zoology and television remain as tall as ever.
