In 2025, the SEG Niederkassel is set to bring back its popular after-work markets, responding to last year’s overwhelming demand. These markets, held under the motto “Gesellig in den Feierabend,” will take place in collaboration with WEvent, offering not just culinary delights but also cultural experiences for the community.
One of the standout features of this year’s events is the exclusive "Rheinpegel" beer, developed in partnership with Stadtwerke Niederkassel and Stadtmarketing. Brewed according to German brewing law, this unique beverage incorporates local Niederkasseler water along with carefully selected hops, premium barley malt, and the finest yeast. The result promises to be a delightful taste experience that perfectly complements the after-work atmosphere.
As Sven Vollmert from SEG explained, "900 liters of 'Rheinpegel' beer will be ready on April 23, 2025. It will be bottled and served fresh the following day at the first after-work market in Ranzel." This special brew is only available during the after-work markets, making it a must-try for attendees.
The after-work markets will be held on the last Thursday of each month from April to September, opening their doors from 5 PM to 9 PM. The scheduled dates and locations are as follows: April 24 in Ranzel at Willy-Brandt-Platz, May 22 in Mondorf at Adenauerplatz, June 26 in Uckendorf at Dorfplatz, July 31 in Lülsdorf at Ludwigsplatz, August 28 in Niederkassel at Rathausplatz, and September 25 again in Ranzel at Willy-Brandt-Platz.
Ramon Wiener from WEvent highlighted the blend of new attractions and returning favorites at this year’s markets. "We want to create a meeting point for colleagues, friends, and families, where people can come together in a relaxed atmosphere during the week," he said. The markets aim to revitalize currently lifeless plazas in Niederkassel, fostering community spirit and enhancing the livability of the city.
However, not all locations are feasible for the after-work markets. Sebastian Fischer, managing director of SEG Niederkassel, pointed out the challenges of including Rheidt in this year's lineup. "We would have liked to go to Rheidt, but we know the challenges. It is particularly difficult to hold an event there without closing the road and ensuring safety," he explained. Despite this setback, Fischer remains open to exploring ideas for next year.
In addition to the after-work markets, another event has captured the hearts of local residents: the Maifest organized by the Junggesellenverein "Echte Fründe". This year’s celebration was particularly memorable, as Eike Vogt took the opportunity to propose to Bianca Neff during the Maipaar crowning ceremony.
The festivities kicked off with a lively Mallorca party on Friday night, leading into Saturday's parade featuring the Maipaar and their accompanying couples. Mayor Matthias Großgarten presided over the crowning ceremony, thanking last year’s Maipaar, Timo and Jasmin, before bestowing the honor upon this year’s Maipaar, Bianca Neff and Eike Vogt.
As Eike received the king’s chain and the ceremonial key, he made a heartfelt request for his young son to join him on stage. In a touching moment, Eike proposed to Bianca, who responded with a jubilant “JA!” This heartfelt exchange added a personal touch to the festivities, allowing the couple to celebrate their engagement alongside the Maigrafenpaare, Neele and Nils, as well as Mirja and Finn.
The Maifest and the after-work markets together highlight the vibrant community spirit in Niederkassel. These events not only provide entertainment and enjoyment but also strengthen the bonds among residents, making the city a more inviting place to live.
As the SEG Niederkassel prepares for the upcoming after-work markets, there is a palpable excitement in the air. The combination of local culture, culinary delights, and community engagement promises to create a series of unforgettable evenings for all who attend. Local vendors, associations, and artists interested in participating in the after-work markets are encouraged to reach out to the SEG’s economic development team via email at [email protected].
Fischer expressed pride in the upcoming events, stating, "We are thrilled to offer the after-work markets again this year and are proud to present our new exclusive beer 'Rheinpegel'. The after-work market will once again be a meeting point for the entire city and a highlight in the regional calendar." As the dates approach, residents and visitors alike are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a delightful series of gatherings, filled with laughter, connection, and community spirit.
