Nicholas Pooran Joins Elite Club With 600 Sixes In T20 Cricket

The West Indies star shines bright during IPL 2025, showcasing remarkable power-hitting against Delhi Capitals.

Nicholas Pooran has made history during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season by becoming the fourth player worldwide to smash over 600 sixes in T20 cricket. His extraordinary achievement was celebrated during a match against the Delhi Capitals on March 24, 2025, held at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

The West Indies wicketkeeper-batter reached this milestone when he hit a six off debutant VIPRAJ Nigam's bowling in the seventh over of the innings. Pooran's shot not only marked his transition into an elite group but also highlighted his spectacular form, as he ended the match with an impressive score of 75 runs off just 30 balls, which included seven sixes and six fours.

In this match, Pooran showcased an all-out attacking approach that thrilled cricket fans, especially in the 13th over against the Delhi Capitals' bowler Tristan Stubbs, where he launched a remarkable offensive with four consecutive sixes. This display of formidable power-hitting only served to elevate the excitement during the game, as Pooran hit three boundaries and powered his innings with a whopping seven sixes overall.

Moreover, his half-century arrived in just 24 balls, marking a rapid ascent in the game after entering at No. 3 following the departure of opener Mitchell Marsh. Marsh provided a splendid start to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with his score of 72 runs off 36 balls, complementing Pooran’s efforts nicely as the pair added a significant 87 runs in just 38 balls for the second wicket.

Despite this impressive performance, LSG faced challenges in the latter stages of the innings. After a solid 133 for 1 after 12 overs, they stumbled by losing seven wickets for just 61 runs, eventually finishing their innings at 209 for 8 in 20 overs. The Delhi Capitals bowlers, especially Kuldeep Yadav, were pivotal in restricting LSG by taking two wickets for just 20 runs, while Mitchell Starc claimed three wickets for 42 runs.

Pooran's historical achievement places him alongside some of the game's most legendary T20 players, joining a list that includes Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Andre Russell. Gayle leads the all-time six-hitting chart with 1,056 sixes, followed by Pollard at 908, and Russell at 733. Pooran, now with an impressive total of 600 sixes, is shaping up as a critical figure in contemporary T20 cricket.

Pooran's phenomenal performance and milestone are made even more significant considering his recent form, having hit 187 sixes in T20 cricket since the start of 2024. This dynamic left-hander has been a pivotal player for LSG since joining the team, further cementing his reputation as one of the fiercest hitters in the shortest format of the game. He was retained by LSG for a substantial fee of Rs 21 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

The impact of Pooran’s record-tying performance at the IPL adds to his previous accomplishment, having recorded 149 sixes in international T20 cricket for West Indies. With over 8,640 runs accrued in 385 T20 matches, his consistency and ability to deliver explosive innings have made him a cornerstone of contemporary cricket.

As the IPL 2025 season progresses, Nicholas Pooran's fans and cricket aficionados alike eagerly anticipate his next performances, especially with his merging of explosive power and skillful batting techniques that keep redefining limits in T20 cricket.
