New Variety Shows Launch On Terebi-Asahi

Innovative programs explore nostalgia and comedy with fresh hosts this January.

Terebi-Asahi has launched three new variety shows, showcasing fresh concepts directed at late-night audiences.

Debuting on January 7, 2025, these latest additions are part of the 'Barabara Daisakusen' segment, scheduled to air Monday to Thursday at 2:54 AM. The station aims to revitalize its late-night programming and draw viewers with unique and engaging content.

Among the exciting offerings is 'Uchira no Emoik Heisei,' which revisits memorable elements of the Heisei era. Hosted by Aoyama Teruma, who has released numerous hit songs during this period, and K from &TEAM, who is making waves since his debut, the program promises to resonate with both older and younger audiences. Aoyama described the recording as "enjoyable, as if we time-traveled to the Heisei era!" echoing the show’s nostalgia. K added, "It's nostalgic yet fresh; I believe viewers of all generations will enjoy it," both hosts appealing to viewers to tune in.

On Wednesdays, Seiya from the popular comedy duo Shimofuri Myojo embarks on 'Saisho no Terebi,' making the bold choice to present the show entirely in monochrome. The concept revolves around unearthing mysterious footage discovered at Terebi-Asahi's archive warehouse, believed to be from the 1960s. The footage includes appearances from comedians who may remind audiences of the past, albeit with surreal twists. Seiya expressed his enthusiasm: "I was excited! This show fits my tastes perfectly. It might sound exaggerated, but this revived ‘goodness of television’ makes me look forward to 2025!" demonstrating his affinity for the nostalgic yet innovative format.

Thursdays see the introduction of comedy duo Evers with 'Evers no Shiranuga Kanmuri,' their first broadcast program. Known for their unique humor and charm, the duo’s dynamic is put to the test when Sasaki Takafumi, the boke (funny man), orchestrates pranks on his partner Machida Kazuki. Sasaki courageously admitted, "Initially, I was anxious about our first show with Machida, but it turned out to be fun! I realized what it felt like to create those legendary pranks," referencing respect for the comedy heritage challenged by classics like 'London Hearts.' Meanwhile, Machida humorously remarked on the shock of quickly realizing, "I noted the program ended before I could grasp it. Well, more accurately, it never really started. To say the least, ‘my romance ended with the show,’ feels fitting," hinting at his surprise at the program’s spontaneous nature.

With 'Barabara Monthly' kicking off this January and promising thrilling, new experiences every week, Terebi-Asahi’s new lineup is set to captivate audiences hungry for innovation. Each show pays homage to the past yet embraces the present, making television feel familiar and fresh. The station’s creative endeavors reflect ambitions to connect with viewers emotionally, blending nostalgia with comedy’s ever-evolving nature.

Fans and families alike are invited to join this late-night celebration of culture and community, exploring the themes of yesteryears through inventive approaches. The blend of powerful storylines, comedic surprises, and engaging hosts establishes Terebi-Asahi as a source of entertainment prepared for the future.
