The early days of military life can be both exhilarating and challenging, as new recruits navigate the strict discipline and structured environment of the armed forces. Among them is Lèo Văn Lợi, who shared his experience after just one week of service at the Tiểu đoàn Huấn luyện cơ động, Bộ Chỉ huy BĐBP tỉnh Sơn La. Like many fresh recruits, Lợi faced the bittersweet pang of homesickness, missing the comfort of home as he adapted to his new reality.
At 5:30 AM, the morning bugle rings loud, echoing through the barracks, signaling the start of the day. Lợi and his fellow soldiers quickly line up for their morning exercises, embodying the disciplined lifestyle they are beginning to embrace. "I just graduated high school, and this is the first time I am away from my family. Initially, I couldn’t sleep due to missing home, but I’m starting to get used to the daily routine here," Lợi explained, reflecting on his transformation.
These recruitments are part of larger operations taking place across several battalions, including Tiểu đoàn BB1 at Trung đoàn 754. Officers like Đại úy Bùi Thùy Bắc, the deputy commander of the unit, noted how quickly new soldiers become accustomed to military life. “At first, we focus on introducing them to military discipline, daily schedules, and physical training. It’s wonderful to see them start to flourish,” Bắc remarked.
Joining the military is often seen as both a duty and a pathway to personal growth. Lầu A Giàng, who joined at 24, shared how his family’s encouragement propelled him toward this decision. "With my parents supporting my decision, I wrote the application to enlist. I’m used to waking up early to help on the family farm, so adjusting to the military's schedule has been smooth for me,” Giàng noted with pride.
For many new recruits, these early days are also about building camaraderie. Vũ Duy Quân, currently studying Transportation Engineering, decided to suspend his studies to serve. "I believe it is my civic duty to protect my country. I hope this military experience will help me grow, and afterward, I’ll finish my degree," he stated, displaying the strong sense of responsibility shared among recruits.
Inside the barracks, laced with laughter and shared stories, bonds begin to form. Lê Trần Khánh Minh from the Tiểu đoàn 7 reflects on his first night, struggling to sleep as he adjusted. "Those first nights were tough, filled with longing for home. But after just one week of being here, I feel the joy of military life starting to sink in. The encouragement from our superiors makes it easier," Minh disclosed, echoing the sentiments of many recruits finding their place.
Nutrition is another area where the military focuses on recruit well-being. Meal times are communal, filled with interaction as recruits sit together, reminiscent of family dinners. Lê Minh Sơn shared, "Eating with my comrades makes me feel at home. The food might not be gourmet, but the care from our leaders makes it taste like home-cooked meals.” Officers like Thiếu tá Hồ Hữu Ngoan are attentive, frequently checking on the recruits’ needs to create a family-like atmosphere.
Throughout these initial challenges, the military maintains its commitment to the growth of each soldier, offering support and guidance where needed. This environment cultivates resilience and readiness, preparing the recruits mentally and physically for the rigorous training to come.
Finally, as they settle for sleep after another fulfilling day, the recruits recognize these formative experiences will shape their futures. Many, including Mè Duy Hữu, have set goals for themselves within the military, expressing dreams of advancement and training. "I aim to be part of our party organization here within the military," Hữu shared.
Reflecting on the experiences of these young soldiers, it’s clear the early days of military life serve as more than just training; they are the foundation for future leaders and dedicated individuals committed to serving their country. With the challenges of homesickness and adaptation being met with support and guidance, these recruits are stepping confidently onto the path of service and camaraderie, eager to embrace the ethos of the Bộ đội Cụ Hồ.
