New Movie '遺書、公開。' Promises Dark High School Drama

The film stars Yoshino Hokuto and Shida Sara, exploring the hidden truths of student hierarchies and tragedy.

The highly anticipated movie '遺書、公開。' (Ishokoukai) is set to release on January 31, 2025, featuring a remarkable cast of young talents. Starring 吉野北人 (Yoshino Hokuto) from THE RAMPAGE, 宮世琉弥 (Miyase Rumiya), 松井奏 (Matsui Kanade from IMP.), 志田彩良 (Shida Sara), 高石あかり (Takaishi Akari), and 堀未央奈 (Hori Miona), the film delves deep within the psychological struggles of high school students when they face the harsh reality of ranking.

Based on the manga by 陽東太郎 (Higashi Taro), '遺書、公開。' explores the events surrounding the distribution of rankings within the classroom. The top-ranked girl, 姫山椿 (Himeyama Tsubaki), who seemingly has it all, shocks everyone when she tragically takes her own life. Her death sends shockwaves through the student body. Soon after, her suicide note reaches all the classmates, igniting turmoil and chaos.

Directed by 英勉 (Ei Ben), known for his previous work on ensemble dramas such as '東京リベンジャーズ' (Tokyo Revengers) and '賭ケグルイ' (Kakegurui), the film's script was penned by 鈴木おさむ (Suzuki Osamu). The director stated, “The story depicts the darker side of human nature as it relates to rankings and social pressures among high school students.” This film offers not just suspense but also poignant commentary on the societal pressures faced by youth today.

Yoshino Hokuto, who portrays 池永柊夜 (Ikegana Shuuya), ranked 19th, shared his insights, saying, “I found the character I play to be both serious and enjoyable, albeit quite different from my past roles.” He reflects upon the challenge of balancing the character's internal struggles with their outward demeanor, particularly as his character navigates the shockwaves from the higher-ranked student’s actions.

志田彩良 also stars as 廿日市くるみ (Hatsukaichi Kurumi), openly discussing her character's analytical nature which mirrors her own penchant for observing people. “Each character is like the main lead, capturing the essence of youth, jealousy, and friendship amid turmoil,” she remarked, emphasizing the ensemble nature of the storytelling.

A character PV (promotional video) has been released, showcasing this darker ensemble drama's unique approach to storytelling, where the seemingly ordinary lives of 25 students unravel, showing their dual identities and hidden emotions.

On set, the atmosphere was charged with intensity, with characters requiring to explore deep emotional states. Yet, the cast shared how director Ei Ben injected warmth and positivity to the process, allowing them the space to perform freely, even amid heavy themes. Shida expressed, “The director was genuinely bright and happy, often lightening the mood during our intense scenes.”

Reflecting on their own high school experiences, both actors shared vivid memories of their adolescent years. Yoshino recounted his passion for basketball overshadowing other aspects of his school life, believing he might lack relatability to the younger cast. Meanwhile, Shida fondly reminisced about playful beach outings with friends during her school days.

With the release date drawing near, the excitement within the fan community is palpable. Promotional content, including trailers and behind-the-scenes looks, has built remarkable momentum. The film promises not only gripping storytelling but also strong performances from its talented cast, giving audiences both entertainment and depth.
