New Initiative Promotes Disability Equality In Employment

The project aims to empower disabled individuals through training and awareness campaigns.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities, along with the Ministry of Labor, has launched the "Aydina Nahw Partnership and Equality in Work" project targeting several key governorates.

Set to run from March 2025 through April 2026, the initiative focuses on Cairo, Alexandria, Sharqia, Damietta, Minya, and Sohag. Its primary aim is to provide training programs for service providers from the Ministry of Labor, fostering meaningful engagement and support for individuals with disabilities.

The project encompasses various activities, including awareness seminars for people with disabilities, meetings with employers, and the production of informative videos presented in sign language about the services offered by the Ministry of Labor.

Dr. Iman Karim, the General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, emphasized the importance of the project, stating it is part of the cooperation protocol signed earlier this year with the Ministry of Labor. "The project aims to promote the participation of individuals with disabilities within the labor market, encourage equal job opportunities, and highlight the challenges faced by these individuals,” Karim explained.

The initiative also seeks to educate employers on effective engagement with disabled individuals, enhancing overall economic and social empowerment. Training centers will be established to prepare people with disabilities for the labor market, all contributing to building capacity for service providers at the Ministry of Labor.

Karim also pointed out the need for solid partnerships with businesses at employment fairs, which is pivotal for establishing equality within the workforce. The project fosters motivation for individuals with disabilities to partake actively in communal life.

Governorates were selected for their strategic geographical locations, reflecting the project's commitment to decentralization and its presence across various regions of Egypt. The initiative signifies the government's dedication to addressing barriers to employment faced by individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusivity.

With this project, both the National Council and the Ministry of Labor are determined to not only boost awareness among employers but also cultivate supportive environments for individuals with disabilities, ensuring they have access to the same opportunities as everyone else. It is hoped this will lead to meaningful long-term changes and improvement in the daily lives of those affected.
