New Hiroshima Station Building Set For Grand Opening

The grand opening of ‘Minamoa’ follows a celebratory ceremony with local leaders and a promise of enhanced services.

Hiroshima's new station building, named 'Minamoa,' officially marked its impending grand opening with a commemorative ceremony on March 23, 2025. The celebration drew around 90 attendees, including key figures such as JR West Japan President Kazuaki Nagatani and Hiroshima City Mayor Kazumi Matsui.

The event, held in the central atrium of the station's second floor, highlighted the significant commitment to the project, which involved approximately 560,000 workers over five years. As Nagatani noted during the ceremony, the station is envisioned as a vital gateway to the Chugoku region and aims to improve transportation connectivity while boosting the local economy and urban vibrancy.

"As a gateway to the Chugoku region, we hope to enhance the transportation functions of Hiroshima Station and contribute to the vibrancy of the city," said Nagatani. The new station will house a commercial facility with about 220 stores, a cinema complex, and a hotel, positioned across nine floors above ground and one floor below.

In addition to retail and hospitality offerings, the new Hiroshima Station will also feature the first streetcar line to enter its premises on the second floor. This innovative design is set to elevate the station's functionality and accessibility, further solidifying its role as a hub for both residents and visitors alike.

Mayor Matsui expressed his vision for the station's impact on the city, stating, "I want to create a city that will allow people to experience the goodness of the region as the gateway to the Chugoku and Shikoku areas." This sentiment underscores the broader goal of revitalizing the municipal landscape and enhancing the overall experience for those who visit.

Nagatani also shared, "Expectations are high that it will become an even more vibrant city that visitors want to come to," showcasing the optimism surrounding the station's opening and its expected contributions to local tourism.

The grand opening is set for March 24, 2025, and local officials are eager to showcase the new features and services the building will offer. With its state-of-the-art facilities and strategic location, the Minamoa is poised to become an integral part of Hiroshima's urban fabric.

As preparations for the grand opening continue, the community is abuzz with anticipation. The completion of the Minamoa represents not just the inception of a new transportation hub but also a revitalization of Hiroshima's urban experience, promising both economic growth and a renewed sense of community pride.

As Hiroshima welcomes its modernized station, it stands as a testament to the city's resilience and forward-thinking vision, setting the stage for a new era of connectivity and prosperity.

In summary, the new Hiroshima Station building symbolizes a significant milestone in the region's developmental history. As it prepares for its grand opening just a day away, the excitement captured by local leaders and citizens alike reflects a collective hope for what the future holds for Hiroshima in this new chapter.
