New Drama Queen Woo Debuts Strong Amid Netflix Dominance

The latest tvN series enters the charts at third place as Netflix's hit holds firm at number one.

The Netflix original series 'A Good Day to Be a Dog' has held its ground at the top of the charts for two consecutive weeks, but it’s the new Saturday-Sunday drama from tvN, 'Queen Woo,' that has captured attention by debuting at third place immediately after its first broadcast on April 12, 2025.

'Queen Woo' is a spin-off of the popular drama 'Hospital Playlist,' focusing on the lives of resident doctors as they navigate their early careers in medicine. The story revolves around five characters, including the newly minted obstetrician resident Oh Yi-young, played by Go Yoon-jung, and fellow residents Pyo Nam-kyung, Um Jae-il, Kim Sa-bi, and their senior resident Koo Do-won.

Ranked fourth is Disney+’s original series 'High Five,' starring Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu. The show, which released its final episode on April 9, 2025, has garnered praise for its intense storyline, where a once-promising genius doctor, Se-ok, confronts his former mentor, Deok-hee, who is responsible for his downfall.

The rankings continued with Lee Byung-hun's film 'Victory' at fifth, followed by JTBC's Saturday-Sunday drama 'The Art of Negotiation' starring Lee Je-hoon, SBS's 'Flex x Cop' featuring Park Hyung-sik, and the STUDIO X+U drama 'Competition of Goodness' with Lee Hye-ri and Jung Soo-bin, taking the sixth to eighth spots respectively. Netflix's entertainment show 'Daewang Kianjang,' featuring Kian84, BTS's Jin, and Ji Ye-eun, ranked ninth, while the crime action film 'Yadang,' starring Kang Ha-neul, Yoo Hae-jin, and Park Hae-joon, released on April 16, 2025, secured the tenth position.

Meanwhile, actress Shin Si-ah has been busy filling her schedule with various projects, including a food trip with chef Edward Lee, the drama 'Queen Woo,' and the upcoming film 'Package,' set to release on April 30, 2025. During the production presentation for 'Queen Woo' on April 17, 2025, she expressed her excitement and readiness for the new role.

Shin Si-ah described her character, Pyo Nam-kyung, as someone who has grown up surrounded by love but is a bit clumsy and endearing. "She thinks she’s quite capable, but others find her amusingly awkward," she said. The actress noted that filming has been an emotional journey for her, with many scenes requiring her to tap into deep feelings. "I found myself crying a lot on set because Nam-kyung has many emotional scenes," she shared.

Reflecting on her growth as an actress, Shin Si-ah mentioned the influence of director Shin Won-ho, known for his work on the 'Reply' and 'Hospital Playlist' series. "He’s like a guardian angel and really cares about us as actors," she said, emphasizing the supportive environment he fosters on set.

Shin also discussed the delays in the show's airing due to medical issues that arose during filming. "The director expressed concern that the beautiful stories of young people should be conveyed without distortion, and we waited for about a year for the show to air," she explained.

On the topic of her recent experiences, Shin Si-ah shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming film 'Package.' "The premise of a 60-year-old female killer intrigued me from the start. It’s a unique story that I haven’t seen before," she remarked, expressing her eagerness to delve into the character.

As for her personal life, Shin Si-ah has been focusing on her fitness, participating in boxing and running to prepare for her roles. "I realized that having good physical strength is crucial for delivering a good performance," she noted, highlighting the active lifestyle she has adopted.

Additionally, she revealed her passion for poetry, having taken classes in Hyehwa-dong. "Writing poetry has helped me express myself and has been a liberating process," she said, reflecting on how it has influenced her acting and personal growth.

In a recent interview, she emphasized her love for her work, stating, "I feel like I’m truly doing what I love now. I want to continue loving what I do and sharing that passion with others." Shin Si-ah's journey through acting, poetry, and fitness showcases her multifaceted talents and dedication to her craft.
