New Crime Series "Alpentod" Premieres On RTL

The gripping drama explores mysterious disappearances and unresolved cases among the stunning, treacherous Alps.

Crime drama enthusiasts have something to look forward to as RTL prepares to air the gripping new series, Alpentod - Ein Bergland-Krimi, beginning on March 4, 2025, at 20:15. This series brings together talented actors Veronica Ferres, Tim Oliver Schultz, and Salka Weber as they navigate through chilling mysteries set against the picturesque yet haunting landscapes of the Austrian Alps.

Episode 1, titled "Alte Wunden," follows the unsettling case of 11-year-old Leon, who mysteriously vanishes from his children’s home near Bad Wolfengrub. Initially appearing to be another tragic incident, the case catches the eye of Kriminalkommissar Jonas Becker (Schultz). He draws parallels to the unresolved disappearance of another child, 8-year-old Jennifer, who disappeared from the same location five years prior.

Birgit Reincke (Ferres) is called out of her self-imposed retirement to lend her expertise. Haunted by her previous failures, she reluctantly joins the investigation alongside the ambitious newcomer, Becker, and Dr. Marie Sonnleitner (Weber), a forensic archaeologist who brings a unique scientific lens to the intrigue. Together, they probe deep beyond the surface, following leads and clues entwined within the terrifying truths of the alpine region.

Ferres praises the modern narrative flair of the series, expressing her excitement about the roles of her co-stars, "Ich finde die moderne Erzählweise sehr toll," she asserts confidently. With such dynamic performances, the series aims to deliver not just thrilling mysteries but also compelling character developments.

The drama escalates with the anticipated Episode 2, "Gemeinsame Ziele," which airs on March 11, 2025. This episode dives headfirst back to the dark side of the Alps, where another mystery unfurls—a body is found following shots fired in a dense forest. All eyes turn to psychotherapist Patrizia Bartels, who mysteriously vanishes, leaving her friend Reincke to unearth disturbing secrets amid rising tensions.

Background details indicate substantial effort was invested during filming, which took place from August 27 to October 29, 2024.

Ferres also recalls her adventurous approaches to dealing with the cold, humorously noting she donned her old diver's suit under her costume to combat the chill as filming progressed through colder days. The demanding shoot combined action and emotion as they experienced intense on-screen challenges, including some stunts, which Ferres recounted with enthusiasm: "Ich habe den Handstandüberschlag fünfmal machen müssen...Ich habe das alles genossen!"

The series does not only rely on high-stakes drama; it also flexes its ability to draw viewers with its scenic locations, from the stunning landscapes of Salzburg to the serene yet intimidating wilderness lighting the backdrop to the mystery.

Those unable to watch the premieres can rejoice, as episodes will also be available to stream on RTL+ starting on the same day—just one more option to enjoy this cinematic experience any time. RTL’s premium subscription allows fans to access the latest episodes and exclusive behind-the-scenes content for €8.99 monthly. A basic package is available free with registration.

With much anticipation surrounding the series's narrative depth and character passion, Alpentod - Ein Bergland-Krimi appears set to deliver compelling both thrills and chills alongside the narratives of these unyielding detectives.
