The popular Vietnamese language competition, "Vua Tiếng Việt" (King of Vietnamese), celebrated its new champion on February 7, 2025. Võ Thị Thu Hiền, 42, living and working as an HR staff member in Hanoi, emerged victorious after successfully tackling the challenging rounds of the game's fourth season.
Hiền's victory was more than just personal triumph; it was the culmination of her composure and confidence under pressure. Despite not being the standout contestant throughout the contest, she demonstrated remarkable resilience, particularly when facing the most difficult challenge of identifying words across three increasingly complex boards.
Having the opportunity to either walk away with the standard prize of 30 million VND or take on the challenge ring to continue competing for higher stakes, Hiền chose the latter. She expressed her determination to claim the throne, stating, "I feel it's been a long time since there's been any significant challenge for the throne at 'Vua Tiếng Việt,' so with this opportunity, I am determined to sit on the throne and accept the challenge ring to continue facing exciting challenges."
This decision marked the beginning of what could be an even more rewarding adventure as Hiền strives to increase her prize money above the initial amount.
Throughout her competition, she wasn't alone. Hiền was cheered on by her twin children who encouraged her to participate. They had signed her up for the competition with the hope of seeing their mother on television, and their support proved to be a tremendous morale booster for her during the competition.
"It was their idea to encourage me to participate so they could watch me on TV. Their presence pushed me immensely," she shared.
With her first step successfully behind her and the exciting prospects of the next round, there are high hopes for Hiền as she aims to secure even greater rewards. Her next appearance on "Vua Tiếng Việt" is scheduled for February 14, with the episode themed "Fragrant."
Hiền's determination and family support are reminiscent of previous contestants, such as Đỗ Viết Hưng, who captured the title of season three champion. Hưng, an 11th-grade student from Lê Quý Đôn High School, made headlines for his own impressive displays of knowledge and wit, winning a remarkable grand prize of 320 million VND during the April 26 broadcast, where he faced off against Nguyễn Quỳnh Oanh from Bắc Ninh.
On the verge of his own throne challenge, Hưng said, "I came to the program to be tested, so I'm going to play until the very end, giving my all, even if it means losing everything I have."
The competing spirit and the emotional ties to family shared through these competitors highlight the essence of "Vua Tiếng Việt." Each contestant brings their story and aspirations to the stage, creating not just competition but community and connection.
With Hiền now crowned as the new "Vua," all eyes will be on her to see if she can maintain her title and build off her early momentum. With exciting challenges and family support to keep her going, viewers are eagerly anticipating what’s next for her on the show.
