Actor Naoto Takenaka has been announced as the new MC of "Tabi Salada," set to begin on April 5, 2025, alongside fellow co-host Natsuna Matsushita. This transition marks the end of Masaaki Kanda's impressive tenure, having guided the program for over 27 years. The beloved travel show, which debuted in 1993, is entering its 33rd year and has become known for its vibrant showcase of travel destinations, local cuisine, and weekend getaway spots.
Takenaka expressed his surprise at receiving this unexpected offer, stating, "When I considered the history and weight of the program, I thought it was something I wasn't suited for. But since this year marks my 30th anniversary since debuting, I felt honored to take on the challenge of being a live broadcast MC for the first time." His debut coinciding with such a milestone adds significant excitement around his new role.
He recalls fond memories of his personal travels, particularly his graduation trip to London during university. "It was filled with firsts for me. I was quite anxious due to language barriers, but being exposed to another culture and seeing the historic streets eclipsed my worries with excitement," he shared.
Despite describing himself as being "originally unadventurous and new to traveling," Takenaka has high hopes for the show's future. He aims to explore various destinations, both domestically and internationally. He added, "Through Tabi Salada, I want to go out to many places, both inside the program and out. I hope viewers will not only enjoy the show but also feel motivated to travel themselves." He also paid tribute to Kanda's farewell message: "I never did anything with my life on the line. I was just doing it in a dream. I want to experience the joy of being part of the Tabi Salada family with all my heart and hopes for our audience's enjoyment as well."
Matsushita, who has co-hosted for two years, mentioned her past acting experiences with Takenaka, noting, "Working together as MCs brings with it different kinds of tension and excitement.
