Shosuke Tanihara and Isida Issei's son, Nanato Tsuji, recently opened up about his unique father-son relationships on the ABEMA News channel, following his win at the 37th Junon Superboy Contest. The interview marked his first media appearance after the competition, where he discussed his aspirations of becoming an actor and reflected on his upbringing.
Growing up as the son of celebrated actors, Nanato, now 21, was born to Isida and his mother, Emiko Miyake, who later remarried Tanihara. This blended family dynamic influenced his perspective on the entertainment industry significantly. Looking back, he shared, "My father and his friends were all involved in the entertainment business, so I thought it was normal to see people on television since I was little. It wasn't something I viewed as special. Then, when I was five, I attended my father's movie screening and saw the audience applauding. That made me realize how impactful acting can be, which sparked my interest in the industry."
During the interview, producers probed about any inner conflict he might feel growing up between his biological father, Isida, and his raising parent, Tanihara. Nanato confidently replied, “I don't have any conflict about it. People might think it’s complicated or there has been bullying, but I never think of it negatively. Just like I can’t change my skin color or eye color, there’s no need to change how I feel about my family dynamic. I see it as part of my identity.” He expressed gratitude for the presence of both fathers, emphasizing his respect for Isida as both his father and as an actor.
Nanato is stepping onto the stage as he strives to fulfill his dream of becoming an accomplished actor. His aspirations aren't just limited to recognition but extend to embodying the values and character traits he admires in other actors. "I look up to Senpai Masaki Suda and Yuki Yamada, who seem charismatic but also authentic. They possess not only good looks but also depth as human beings, which is something I aspire to emulate,” he revealed.
When discussing potential collaborations with Tanihara, Nanato expressed excitement about the prospect but acknowledged he must first improve his skills, stating, “I’m not at his level yet, but I hope to reach it. Working together would be wonderful, and I think it would be special.”
He also described the relationship with his biological father, saying, “I honestly don’t have anything hidden away, but my memories are faint. By the time I became aware, Tanihara was already the one present around me. I appreciate Isida greatly; as an actor, his performances move me, and I admire him not just as my father but as someone professionally. While I don’t know if I will get to work with him, I believe such an opportunity would be wonderful.” This articulation of his feelings manifests not only affection but also respect for the artistry within their lineage.
The 37th Junon Superboy Contest has always served as a launchpad for young male talents seeking to gain footing within the entertainment sphere. It has birthed esteemed talents like Shunji Takeda, Eita Nakamura, and Masaki Suda—each carving out notable careers following their participation. The current competition, accepting entries until March 16, 2025, promises to continue this legacy.
Nanato’s candid expressions and reflections on both his parents denote not only his grounding but also his readiness to step confidently onto the stage. He acknowledges being buoyed by their support and the positive grounding they provided throughout his formative years. Rather than worrying about the challenges his unique family background might present, he finds strength and inspiration from it, positioning himself not as the sum of his historical lineage but as his person with unique aspirations and potential.
With his strong determination and the rich heritage of artistry flowing through him, Nanato Tsuji appears poised to make his mark upon the acting world as he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his life.
