Nakamoto Himika, a cherished member of the popular Japanese idol group Nogizaka46, has officially announced her decision to graduate from the group. The announcement came through her personal blog and was later confirmed by the group’s management.
Joining Nogizaka46 as a third-generation member back in September 2016, Nakamoto has been with the group for nearly eight and a half years. Over this time, she has made significant contributions to the group, including her participation as one of the selected members for the 33rd single, "Ohitorisama Tengoku," released last August. This was her first selection as part of the main lineup, marking a significant milestone in her career as an idol.
Reflecting on her time with Nogizaka46, Nakamoto revealed the thoughts of graduation had been on her mind for quite some time, particularly during the release periods of the 33rd and 34th singles. "Looking back, I’ve enjoyed so many wonderful moments as part of this group, but I realized I’ve grown increasingly contemplative about my place here. The transition of the group, including the graduation of all the seniors I admired, has made me reflect deeply on my own path," she wrote.
Nakamoto's decision to step away from her idol career is driven by her desire to support the group as a fan from the outside. She expressed, "Now, I want to cheer for the future of Nogizaka46 as just another fan. This realization has become more than just a fleeting thought; it’s a conviction I’ve come to embrace." Her decision points to her recognition of the changing dynamics within the group and her inner transformation over the past year.
While she embarks on this new chapter, Nakamoto is determined to pursue acting, stating, "I’ve gained many individual opportunities, allowing me to challenge myself within the fields of drama and musicals, which has been both honorable and fulfilling. I love attending musicals and now, stepping onto the stage as an actor brings me incredible joy. Yet, I also recognize the challenge of entering this world filled with talented individuals. It is both exciting and terrifying to leave the idol life behind. I have no confidence, but I want to embrace the challenge of this new path. I may stumble and face failures, but every experience will contribute to my growth as an actress. I’m committed to honing my craft from the ground up."
Her departure is slated to occur shortly, as she will not participate in the forthcoming 38th single, "Navel Orange," set to be released on March 26, 2025. The specifics of her final activities with the group are still being arranged. She expressed her earnest wish to spend these remaining moments conveying her gratitude to fans who have supported her throughout her time as part of the group.
"I want to share my final moments with you all as Nakamoto Himika, the idol, and I hope to leave behind memories we can cherish together, whatever the form may take." With heartfelt appreciation, she concluded, "Thank you for supporting my endeavors all these years. Your presence has made my time here unforgettable, and I genuinely love everything about being part of Nogizaka46. This has been my entire reason for being here."
Fans and members alike are already feeling the impact of her decision, as her departure marks yet another change within the beloved group. Despite the challenges she anticipates, Nakamoto Himika’s spirit of gratitude and desire to excel as both a performer and fan reflects the heart of her personality, leaving many hopeful for her success beyond her idol career.
