The police are seeking assistance from the public concerning several troubling incidents reported recently across central Germany. Chief among these incidents is the mysterious disappearance of Martin M., 54, from Zwenkau, near Leipzig, who has not been seen since March 4, 2025.
Martin M. left his residence on Bäckergasse at around 5:30 PM and has not returned home since. His family has raised alarms, noting he's been missing for more than a week amid growing concerns for his safety. Previous search efforts have proven futile, and now the police have turned to the community for help. They describe Martin as being 1.93 meters tall, of thin build, with short black-gray mottled hair and sporting a stubble beard along with a mustache. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a black jacket, jogging pants, and a blue checkered scarf. The Borna police station encourages anyone with information to come forward by calling 03433/ 244-0, or reaching out to any local police station.
Meanwhile, criminal activity has been on the rise, with police reporting several incidents linked to theft and vandalism. Another distressing theft occurred just weeks prior, on February 26, 2025, when handmade jewelry valued at approximately 12,000 euros was stolen from a jewelry store located on Jahnallee in Leipzig's Altlindenau district. The theft was reported to have happened around 3:10 AM, and police have launched investigations, appealing for information from the public to help lead them to the culprits. The Kripo Leipzig encouraged witnesses or anyone aware of suspicious activities to make contact via their helpline at 0341 / 966 4 6666.
Adding to the string of criminal acts, police reported the theft of an EC card from the apartment of an elderly couple residing in Bad Tabarz, where the card was used fraudulently to withdraw 16,500 euros at various ATMs on Reinhardsbrunner Straße between September 13 and October 9, 2024. The police have been working diligently to identify the perpetrators and are asking citizens to report any unusual behavior or possible suspects, directing them to provide tips to the Kripo Gotha at 03621 / 78 1124.
Additional burglaries have also plagued the Rogätz district of Angern, where multiple garages and storage boxes of a horse farm were targeted on the night of February 7, 2025. The police there are diligently investigating but have not yet identified any suspects. They have issued calls for public support and asked anyone who saw anything odd to share their information with the local police at Haldensleben by calling 03904 / 478 0.
Lastly, the theft of advertising signs from private property on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße occurred on August 25, 2024, at about 11:30 AM. This petty crime has also prompted police at Dessau-Roßlau to look for witnesses, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining community safety.
All these cases were reported on the program Kripo Live, aired by MDR FERNSEHEN on March 16, 2025, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain safety and order within the communities. Community members are reminded how their participation can be key to solving these crimes and ensuring the security of their neighborhoods.
Authorities are hopeful they will gather more information about these incidents, especially the whereabouts of Martin M. and the various thefts plaguing local residents. They once again urge citizens to be watchful and to report anything out of the ordinary, which might help lead to progress in these cases. Police departments are firmly relying on the community's eyes and ears—every little bit of information might prove invaluable.
