The MotoGP has extended its long-term partnership with Sportian, Globant's sports division. Amid the collective battle against sports piracy, this collaboration has achieved groundbreaking results in the removal of illegal content. Since the inception of the anti-piracy partnership with LALIGA, a co-founder of Sportian, more than five years ago, MotoGP has successfully tracked and removed illegal broadcasts across social media, apps, video-on-demand services (VOD), search engines, and illegal streaming sites.
The technological services now operated by Sportian's Piracy Guard have set new standards for protecting sports from piracy. Moving forward, the partnership aims to explore the integration of AI and machine learning technologies to assist in detecting and categorizing pirated materials, enhancing ongoing efforts against audiovisual theft.
Piracy Guard offers MotoGP reactive removal of illegal content alongside proactive monitoring for emerging threats. Over the next year, Sportian will continue optimizing these services to accommodate new risks and provide proactive security assessments to identify and address vulnerabilities that may surface in the broadcasting landscape. The initiative employs automation and predictive analytics to adapt to evolving piracy tactics.
MotoGP continues to experience record viewer numbers, exceeding 3 million spectators for the first time in its history in 2024. Global TV ratings and digital channels are also showing impressive growth. MotoGP not only excels in organizing and promoting the most exciting sport in the world but also demonstrates commitment to combating piracy.
This long-term partnership between MotoGP and Globant Sportian serves as a benchmark in the market and drives investments in innovations to combat piracy of live sports events, like Sportian's Piracy Guard.
Piracy Guard, a combination of powerful detection tools and oversight from expert analysts, ensures unauthorized streams are identified and quickly removed in real-time. Developed by LALIGA's internal piracy team, it maintains partnerships with over 70 of the largest online platforms globally and holds Google TCRP certification. The solution routinely achieves a removal rate of over 90% while also gathering insights and intelligence to support subsequent legal actions and dynamic blocking orders.
Dan Rossomondo, Chief Commercial Officer of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports, commented on the partnership: "Globant Sportian has been a valuable partner in protecting our content over the past five years. Their technology and expertise have significantly reduced the impact of piracy on our sport, ensuring our global audience can continue to enjoy the most exciting sport in the world through the official channels that invest in a premier television experience. Piracy remains an ongoing threat to the live sports market, and we will continue to invest in and collaborate with leading anti-piracy providers to combat it. Globant Sportian is an important partner in this area and we are pleased to extend our partnership and escalate our fight against illegal streaming."
Pablo Lo Giudice, Business Lead for Content Protection at Sportian, added: "MotoGP is a pioneer in protecting sports content in the digital age, and we are proud to extend our successful partnership. Our ability to achieve continuous improvements, even as the scale of piracy increases, is a testament to the commitment of MotoGP and WorldSBK to stay ahead in this battle and demonstrate best practices in the sports industry. As we continue to integrate the latest AI tools into our offerings, we will evolve our services to ensure that sports content remains secure and accessible through official channels."
