Moroccan Tourism Booms With Nearly 2.7 Million Visitors

February 2025 marks significant year-over-year growth, showcasing Morocco's continued appeal.

The Moroccan tourism sector has kicked off the year 2025 with remarkable momentum, recording nearly 2.7 million visitors at border posts by the end of February. This impressive figure marks a 24% increase over the same period last year, translating to 521,000 additional arrivals, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, relayed by Finances News Hebdo.

February alone saw 1.4 million tourists cross Morocco’s borders, reflecting significant growth of 22%, which equates to 248,000 more arrivals compared to February 2024. This surge included 119,000 foreign tourists, indicating an 18% increase, as well as 130,000 Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), whose numbers jumped by 26% during the same month.

The year 2024 had already been notable for Moroccan tourism, achieving a historic milestone with 17.4 million visitors. This figure not only exceeded the anticipated target set for 2026 two years earlier but also represented notable growth of 20% from 2023, adding three million tourists to the annual tally. Of these, 8.8 million were foreign tourists, reflecting a 23% increase, alongside 8.6 million MRE visitors, who increased by 17%.

The data suggests a balanced appeal of Morocco as it draws both foreign tourists and MREs almost evenly—51% and 49%, respectively. This parity highlights the sustained attraction of the destination, confirmed by growing statistics. By achieving this balance, Morocco showcases its comprehensive marketing and hospitality strategy.

Since 2019, the tourism sector reports a growth of 35%, showcasing Morocco's rebound and resilience post-pandemic, effectively positioning itself as a go-to travel destination within Africa. The continuous increases reinforce the relevance of Morocco’s tourism strategy, indicating its effectiveness and adaptability to changing global travel trends.

The statistics not only reveal the country's recovery but also the strategic initiatives put forth to bolster Morocco’s international appeal. "The increase confirms the growing attractiveness of Morocco internationally," stated sources highlighted by Finances News Hebdo.

Moving forward, stakeholders within the tourism industry express optimism about future growth and the potential for greater tourist engagement. The current figures serve as motivation for policymakers and business leaders to innovate and expand upon successful marketing campaigns, aiming to attract not just more visitors, but also to diversify the types of tourism offered— from eco-tourism to cultural and historical tourism.

Overall, these developments position Morocco not just as a prominent tourist destination, but as an exemplary model of successful tourism recovery. With plans for new attractions and improved infrastructures, the country is gearing up to sustain its positive trend and serve tourists from around the globe far beyond 2025.
