Morgan Mining Expands Operations, Brings 893 Jobs To Grand Junction

Governor Polis announces significant economic development initiative supporting local industry growth and job creation.

GRAND JUNCTION – Today, Governor Polis, the Global Business Development Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), and the Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP) announced the expansion of Morgan Mining, a leading interdisciplinary construction, mining, engineering, and management firm, to Grand Junction, Colorado. This pivotal project aims to grow the advanced manufacturing industry and is expected to create 893 new, good-paying jobs in rural Colorado.

Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm: "I’m thrilled to hear Morgan Mining is creating 893 new good-paying jobs to Grand Junction and Mesa County. Colorado is the best place to live, work, and do business, and this exciting announcement shows our leadership to lower costs for workers and build a strong workforce, attracting businesses to our strong economy. This strengthens Colorado for All,” said Polis.

Morgan Mining specializes in providing mining labor, production management, and supplies, and plans to use this expansion to pursue additional contracts across the United States. The new site will act as a hub for product and material suppliers to quickly deliver substantial inventory and equipment to end-users, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.

“We are excited to move forward with our expansion plans in Mesa County,” said Justin Morgan, President of Morgan Mining. He added, “From the outset of this expansion project, OEDIT and GJEP were very actively engaged with us and provided the support needed to tip the scales in favor of Mesa County. We look forward to continuing our relationship with these entities as this expansion moves forward.”

With the anticipated net new jobs at Morgan Mining averaging $92,447 annually—167% above the average wage for Mesa County—positions will include engineers, electricians, and finance roles, which promise to reinvigorate local community job markets.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Grand Junction Economic Partnership and support Morgan Mining’s expansion," commented OEDIT Executive Director Eve Lieberman. She noted the promising advantage of having advanced manufacturing companies grow within rural Colorado, which not only strengthens local economies but also diversifies them. "That’s really a win for western Colorado and for the state."

Curtis Englehart, Executive Director for GJEP, remarked on the significance of Morgan Mining's investment, stating, "This expansion provides incredible opportunities for local workforce development and reinforces the region’s reputation for supporting industry growth. We are proud to partner with Project WesCo Mining as they invest in our community’s future."

The Colorado Economic Development Commission has approved up to $10,890,875.00 in performance-based Job Growth Incentive Tax Credits for Morgan Mining over eight years, contingent upon meeting specified job creation and salary requirements. While evaluating its expansion options, Morgan Mining had briefly considered Tennessee before deciding on Colorado, highlighting the state’s favorable business climate.

With bold steps like these, Colorado continues to position itself as a hub for business innovation and industry growth, backed by strategic government initiatives and local partnerships. This expansion not only promises substantial job creation but also secures the future of advanced manufacturing within the region, showing how governmental support can lead to significant economic opportunities for communities.
