From March 17 to March 21, 2025, the Printemps des Poètes event will transform the Bibliothèque Universitaire ATRIUM at Université Paul-Valéry in Montpellier, France, celebrating the art of poetry. This year’s theme revolves around volcanic expressions through words, inviting both seasoned poets and newcomers to engage with the poetic community.
On the opening day, March 17, attendees are welcomed to indulge in live creative expressions. From 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, renowned poet Claire Musiol will present interactive poetic portraits. This captivating performance allows participants to contribute words, which Musiol then weaves creatively, forming personalized poetry on the spot. "Laissez-vous porter par les mots en éruption," the event organizers invite, encouraging all to get swept up by the wave of creativity.
The excitement continues on March 18 when the activities resume at 12:30 PM with the “postcard dialogue.” This event, guided by Emilie Klene, showcases visionary messages crafted by students from the Université du Tiers Temps de Montpellier. These imaginative creations, previously shared through workshops, will be presented and exchanged among students, fostering community through literary engagement.
Later on March 18, from 3 PM to 5 PM, the Auditorium hosts bilingual readings of Chinese poetry. Organized by the Chinese Department of the Université de Montpellier Paul-Valéry, this gathering will feature readings by Cheng Yunfeng and Yao Yuren from the highly anticipated publication by sinologist Guilhem Fabre entitled Instants éternels: Cent et quelques poèmes connus par cœur en Chine. This event not only highlights the beauty of Chinese poetry but also serves as a bridge between cultures.
The following day, March 19, brings more poetic flair with multi-language readings at 12:30 PM. The UFR2-Faculté des Langues of Montpellier will lead this session, emphasizing themes of engagement and resistance through works by celebrated poets such as Alba de Céspedes and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. From 1 PM to 1:30 PM the same day, attendees can partake in the open stage event, where anyone is welcome to read, recite or perform poetry, regardless of language. This creates an inclusive atmosphere, encouraging a diverse array of voices to resonate across the audience.
The event schedule will include another highlight on March 20, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Participants will hear readings and take part in the dispersion of volcanic texts—creative writings produced by students during workshops associated with their literature programs. These works celebrate the theme of inner volcanoes, mirroring the fiery passion found within each participant.
On the final day, March 21, the week of poetry culminates with bilingual closing readings from 12:30 PM to 1 PM. Students Ayla Arifi and Zahra Tlaghi-Kamli will share their insights and powerful renditions, reflecting on their experiences throughout the week. This closing segment promises to encapsulate the spirit of the week and leave attendees inspired to express themselves creatively beyond the event.
The Printemps des Poètes event not only serves as a celebration of poetry but also fosters community and engagement within the realms of creativity and expression. From performances and readings to workshops and open stages, this week promises to be filled with laughter, inspiration, and passionate discourse through the vibrant world of poetry. Everyone is invited to bring their lunch, partake in the activities, and take part in this eruption of words!
