Montpellier Celebrates Holiday Joy With Events Galore

From chocolate mousse bars to artisan markets, festive activities abound this season.

This winter, holiday cheer is taking over Montpellier with exciting events and activities for all ages. At the heart of this festive season is the opening of the first customizable chocolate mousse bar by the renowned chocolatier Maison Peromet.

For chocolate enthusiasts, this unique experience allows visitors to create their very own mousse selon leurs envies (according to their desires) starting from November 29, 2024. At the charming market taking place at Odysseum, patrons can choose their base chocolate, customize the light or dense mousse, and add delightful toppings such as caramelized hazelnuts and roasted coconut. This immersive chocolate bar offers not just sweetness but also enchantment, setting the perfect tone for the holidays.

The Maison Peromet aims to weave together joy and culinary craftsmanship, creating opportunities to engage in the delightful world of chocolate creation. Florian Peromet, who has trained alongside the big names of the confectionery world, emphasizes this experience as part of his commitment to excellence. "The bar à mousse au chocolat de la Maison Peromet vous attend sur le marché de Noël d’Odysseum à Montpellier, tous les jours à partir du 29 Novembre 2024" (The chocolate mousse bar from Maison Peromet awaits you at the Odysseum Christmas market in Montpellier, every day starting November 29, 2024).

Just a stone's throw away from the Comédie is the Îlot des Arts, which features local artisans offering unique gifts. Here, last-minute shoppers can find various treasures including ceramics, textiles, and even antiques, enriching the holiday shopping experience. The shop provides something for everyone, fostering creativity and local craftsmanship. "Urgence cadeaux? Vous trouverez plein de jolis petits trésors à l'ilot des arts, à deux pas de la Comédie à Montpellier" (Need gifts urgently? You'll find plenty of beautiful little treasures at the Îlot des Arts, just steps from the Comédie, Montpellier).

On December 24, as families prepare for the holidays, Montpellier will be buzzing with activities for all to enjoy. At the iconic Peyrou, the Christmas market boasts 90 chalets showcasing local artisans and culinary delights. It’s the last day to enjoy this charming venue, where from 2 PM to 5:30 PM, children can take photos with Santa Claus, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Meanwhile, at the historic Faculty of Medicine, guided tours present not only Rabelais and Nostradamus but also the important heritage of medical education. The tours run from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, priced reasonably, allowing visitors to soak up knowledge and history. Limited to just those with reservations, it’s also another opportunity for meaningful engagement on this festive day.

For the young ones, La Grande-Motte will feature the ‘Forêt magique’ (Magic Forest), where trees are adorned with sparkling decorations and interactive surprises, lighting up the season with joy. Scheduled for December 24, children can indulge in creative workshops, including making snowmen and wooden deer to decorate their Christmas trees. “Déambulez au milieu d’arbres lumineux, de décorations féeriques et de surprises interactives qui feront briller les yeux des visiteurs” (Stroll among luminous trees, magical decorations, and interactive surprises, which will make visitors’ eyes sparkle) is how they describe this enchanting place! All events continue daily until January 5, minus on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Adding to the excitement, there’s the performance titled “Miss Poppins à la rescousse du Père Noël” (Miss Poppins to the Rescue of Santa Claus), which captivates children with its engaging story about saving Santa influenced by climate change. Scheduled for multiple performances around Christmas, this charming show promises to be both educational and fun, capturing the imaginations of young viewers. After all, who wouldn’t want to help Santa?

And the holiday spirit continues with various sporting events happening at the Maison pour tous Joseph-Ricôme, providing inclusive fun for children and families alike. Entrance is free, creating yet another opportunity to celebrate the season.

This year, Montpellier has truly presented a splendid variety of festive events, each geared toward engaging the community and offering splendid experiences for everyone. Whether indulging sweetly at the chocolate mousse bar, shopping locally, or participating in educational tours and magical experiences, Montpellier warmly invites all to come together and celebrate the joys of the holiday season.
