Málaga is gearing up for one of its most anticipated cultural events, the Noche en Blanco 2025, set to take place on Saturday, May 10, from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM. This year, the event will feature around 150 activities, all free of charge, spread across 81 iconic venues throughout the city. The sixteenth edition of Noche en Blanco is dedicated to the memory of Rafael Pérez Estrada, a celebrated poet and artist, marking the 25th anniversary of his passing.
The event will be divided into various thematic categories, including 'Art, Museums and Exhibitions', 'Performing Arts', 'Music and Dance', 'Art in the Street', 'Audiovisual Arts', and a special section for children called 'Nochecita en Blanco'. Each category will offer a unique array of activities designed to engage and inspire attendees of all ages.
One of the standout features this year is the 'Nochecita en Blanco', which will take place in the Soho area on Calle Tomás Heredia. This area will host family-friendly workshops, storytelling sessions, and performances that celebrate the creative spirit of Rafael Pérez Estrada. For instance, children can participate in a mural workshop where they will create their own handprints to contribute to a community mural. Sessions will run from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM, accommodating groups of 16 (8 children and 8 adults) for each 30-minute session.
Additionally, a mask-making workshop will allow participants to explore their artistic sides by designing masks inspired by surrealism, a style closely associated with Pérez Estrada. These workshops will also be available in 30-minute sessions, ensuring that many families can join in on the fun.
Other engaging activities include a surreal bookmark workshop, where kids can create bookmarks adorned with whimsical designs and poetic verses drawn from Pérez Estrada's works. This initiative aims to foster a love for reading and art among young participants. The workshops will also be limited to 16 participants per session, ensuring personalized attention.
For those interested in performance, young musicians Javier and Antonio Ortiz Trabalón, aged 9 and 11, will present a recital featuring cello, violin, and piano, showcasing traditional melodies from Málaga. This performance is scheduled for 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Calle Tomás Heredia, connecting the audience to the cultural roots that inspired Pérez Estrada.
Storytelling sessions will feature the tale “La mano pajarito,” written by Isabela Méndez, which invites children to explore their creativity and the transformative power of art. This enchanting story will be told in three 20-minute sessions throughout the evening, encouraging families to gather and enjoy the narrative together.
Moreover, the poetic-musical show “Domador, luna y estrellas” will immerse audiences in a magical world inspired by Pérez Estrada's imagination, featuring unicorns, angels, and other fantastical beings. This performance will have two sessions, each lasting 20 minutes, at 9:00 PM and 10:55 PM.
The event will also feature the theatrical piece “El corazoncito manda,” which will explore Pérez Estrada's artistic universe through humor and live music. This show will run for approximately 35 minutes, with two performances scheduled at 9:50 PM and 11:20 PM.
In addition to these workshops and performances, the 'Pinta tu tierra' activity will invite participants to create art inspired by the environment, with sessions running at 8:00 PM, 9:00 PM, 10:00 PM, and 11:00 PM. This initiative aims to promote environmental awareness through artistic expression.
The Málaga City Council is also making arrangements to facilitate transportation during the event. Public transport services will be extended until 2:00 AM on Sunday, May 11, to accommodate the expected influx of visitors. The Empresa Malagueña de Transportes (EMT) will increase capacity by 25,000 additional seats on various bus lines, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities without transportation concerns.
For those interested in visiting museums, several institutions will open their doors for free, including the Museo Carmen Thyssen, Museo Picasso, and Museo Interactivo de la Música (MIMMA). These venues will host special activities and exhibitions, allowing visitors to experience the rich cultural heritage of Málaga.
Visitors can also explore the city's historical sites through guided tours that highlight landmarks such as the Roman Theater and the Alcazaba. These tours will provide insight into Málaga's artistic and architectural history while celebrating Pérez Estrada's legacy.
