Minister Reshetnikov Leads Meeting On Dagestan Tourism Development

Significant strides made as investments grow and infrastructure improves

On March 15, 2025, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov convened an important meeting focused on the development of tourism and the socio-economic progress of Dagestan. Conducted at the Salatau-Villiage park-hotel situated within the Kazbekovsky district, the meeting drew significant attention as it addressed key initiatives under the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality’.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sergei Nazarov and Vladimir Nadykto, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative for the North Caucasus Federal District. Also present were Andrey Yumshanov, General Director of KAVKAZ.RF, and Emin Merdanov, the Minister of Tourism and Folk Crafts of Dagestan, among other regional representatives.

Reshetnikov emphasized the relevance of the tourism sector, stating, “All key sectors of the economy show positive dynamics, including agriculture, processing, and tourism.” This statement reflects the significant strides Dagestan has made recently, showcasing rapid growth rates compared to previous years.

The discussion included plans for the construction of major hotels and modular accommodations, which are seen as pivotal to boosting local tourism. Reshetnikov noted the importance of developing energy, engineering, and road infrastructures as fundamental components of these initiatives. He pointed out how investments have surged over the past three years, with last year’s growth documented at 8.3%. This uptick is attributed to collaborative efforts among the government, regional teams, and the President’s initiatives.

Another highlight of the meeting was Andrey Yumshanov’s presentation on development strategies for the KAVKAZ.RF, which outlines goals and tasks leading up to 2030. He spoke of ambitious projects aimed at enhancing the Caspian coastal cluster's appeal and functionality.

Beyond tourism, Reshetnikov noted Dagestan's achievements across various sectors, affirming, “Dagestan has reached high rates of development.” The minister highlighted agriculture and manufacturing as sectors currently demonstrating particularly strong progress, thanks to continued investment and government support.

During his visit, Reshetnikov shared insights from touring modernization projects within the region. He was particularly impressed by new installations, including improved heating units at Kizilyurt. “This is excellent evidence of the effective approach,” he remarked, highlighting the transition from outdated Soviet-era boiler systems to modern facilities capable of providing year-round hot water.

The modernized facilities are set to meet the heating needs of the community sustainably and efficiently, signaling the region's commitment to infrastructural advancement. Reshetnikov also pointed out the growth potential and positive changes within other service sectors, which could benefit significantly from continued attention and investment.

Concluding the meeting, Reshetnikov underscored the necessity for Dagestan to maintain its momentum, urging stakeholders to leverage existing measures of support effectively. He stressed, “Such initiatives should be increased,” as they not only uplift local infrastructure but also establish benchmarks for future advancements.

Overall, the gathered officials are optimistic about Dagestan's outlook, recognizing its potential to transform tourism and thereby contribute significantly to broader economic stability. The concerted efforts of government bodies, alongside private sector investments, are projected to propel Dagestan toward improved living standards and enhanced regional prestige in the coming years.

With the continuing development of various sectors and supportive governmental measures, there is hope for Dagestan to emerge as a leading destination and economic hub within the North Caucasus region. The steps discussed during this meeting represent not just strategic planning but also tangible commitments to fostering growth and opportunity for residents and visitors alike.
