Mild Weather Predicted For Novosibirsk This January

Temperatures will rise above seasonal averages as frosts recede and milder conditions take over.

Novosibirsk's weather forecast for January 2025 reveals significant changes as colder temperatures give way to milder conditions. According to Romain Vilfand, the scientific chief of the Hydrometcenter of Russia, strong frosts typical of the Siberian winter will cease next week, settling instead for weather more characteristic of the late month.

Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between -12 to -16 degrees Celsius, with night-time lows dropping to around -20 degrees. Interestingly, the average temperature across the Novosibirsk region will rise 4 to 6 degrees above climatic norms, indicating quite the shift from the harsh frosts usually expected at this time.

Forecast details from the Meteorological center “Phobos” have confirmed similar trends, predicting relative warmth over the weekend of January 25 and 26. Meteorologists expect temperatures to warm, alleviating the biting cold experienced earlier this month, with daytime highs of -15 to -17 degrees and initial morning lows dipping to -24 degrees.

“The atmospheric pressure is elevated, so there will be no conditions for snow clouds to develop,” the report indicates, implying clearer skies for the weekend. On Saturday, January 25, expect variable cloudiness, with winds gusting up to 15 meters per second, and minimal precipitation overall. The forecast for the night of January 26 suggests temperatures ranging between -16 and -18 degrees alongside decreasing atmospheric pressure.

Interestingly, traditional weather lore links January 25, which is celebrated as Tatyana Day, with nature’s behavior, where sunny conditions might predict early bird migrations. This iterative connection between culture and climate reflects on the historical wisdom embedded within the local community.

Further predictions suggest the absence of strong frosts throughout the remainder of January. Natalia Kichanova of West Siberian UGMS has specified, “We do not expect frosts until the last days of January. At the same time, we do not expect thaws – moderate winter weather is expected.” This prediction paints the picture of stable winter-like temperatures without the extreme cold.

Looking to February, forecasts from Gismeteo offer insights anticipating the arrival of severe frosts during the first days, where daylight readings might plunge to around -20 degrees. The initial days could see daytime temperatures range from -16 to -22 degrees, and nighttime lows potentially descends to -25 or even -30 degrees.

The long-range outlook indicates, from February 5 to 21, the cold will give way to milder conditions as temperatures begin to stabilize between -10 to -17 degrees during the day, with night-time temperatures reducing to -13 to -24 degrees and increased expectations for snow.

While February opens with clear indications of harsh cold, the forecast hinting at warmer trends toward the month’s end mirrors the overall theme of transition seen throughout January. The final days of February promise relative mildness with daytime highs around -9 degrees and nocturnal temperature dips to -12. Light snow is expected sporadically during the first week, particularly on February 1, 6, 7, and 8, pointing toward a variable but not overwhelmingly severe climate.
