Miki Mizuno Balances Life As An Actress And Mother

As her child prepares for elementary school, Mizuno shares her parenting journey and performance plans.

On March 21, 2025, popular actress Miki Mizuno will make an appearance on NHK's morning show 'Asaichi' at 8:15 AM, sharing her insights about balancing motherhood and her acting career. Known for her strong presence in various dramas and films, Mizuno is no stranger to capturing the audience's attention. However, as she enters her seventh year of being a mother, her focus has shifted to the world of parenting.

With children hitting milestones, Mizuno reveals her child will be starting elementary school this April, an event met with mixed emotions. "My child seems excited but doesn’t fully grasp the meaning of graduation or starting school yet. It’s the parents who are dwelling on these transitions," she explains, highlighting the sense of anxiety that accompanies new stages in parenting.

As the preparations for her child's schooling begin, Mizuno admits the process is daunting. "Initially, I wasn’t very organized when it came to packing bags or ensuring everything was ready for kindergarten. Now we face additional challenges, like new routines and making sure we have everything for school laid out in advance," she states. She recalls the overwhelming number of items requiring labels, feeling somewhat at a loss without the support she'd grown accustomed to in preschool. "I discovered that I would be required to label even marbles, which seemed exhausting, so I plan to use name stickers and a printer for efficiency," she chuckles.

Mizuno reflects on the steep learning curve that motherhood has presented. Even as someone who has been in the acting industry since the age of 13, she realizes that fulfilling everyday responsibilities goes beyond the theatrical realm. "I’m amazed by the level of organization by other mothers. When invited to gatherings, I often find they arrive with detailed Excel sheets for accounting, which blows my mind!" she expresses with admiration.

This journey as a mother is transforming Mizuno personally and professionally. "I feel like I'm learning as a member of society through raising children. It's challenging but rewarding, showing me how much support is necessary day to day. I’m starting to understand the challenges of working parents on a deeper level," Mizuno remarks, underscoring the enriching but difficult nature of dual responsibilities.

In addition to her duties as a mother, Mizuno is also active in her theatre career. She has an upcoming role in the 'AERA with Kids 2024 Spring issue', where she will discuss her growth and experiences as a parent. "I can’t wait to show the kind of me I can present on stage this time," she mentions excitedly, reflecting her eagerness as she balances both her onstage and offstage lives.

Further adding to her already busy schedule, Mizuno will appear in 'Kemuri Research Institute' starting October 1, 2025. This play marks her return with the talented group that she last worked with three years ago. "Participating in 'Kemuri Research Institute' feels like a homecoming. Each play is a new adventure, and I'm thrilled to see the unique spin that emerges from Keralino Sandrovich's writing and direction. There's an excitement about not knowing what to expect," she observes.

As an actress whose life underwent a significant shift after becoming a mother at 43, Mizuno embraces the changes with optimism. Adopting the humorous approach to address her childhood memories and the chaos that may ensue, she is ready for the future. Her determination to integrate both her passion for acting and her commitments as a mother serves as an inspiring story for others navigating similar paths.

Miki Mizuno’s upcoming appearance on 'Asaichi' will certainly shed more light on this talented actress who is juggling life as both a devoted mother and committed performer, helping to inspire others with the stories of her ongoing journey.
