Microsoft has officially launched its new engineering organization, dubbed CoreAI – Platform and Tools, to navigate the rapidly transforming artificial intelligence (AI) development environment. This restructuring aims to centralize and streamline efforts around AI applications, reflecting CEO Satya Nadella’s conviction about the pivotal changes on the horizon for software development.
According to Nadella, "It’s clear we’re entering the next innings of this AI platform shift. 2025 will be about model-forward applications... thirty years of change is being compressed to three years!" The CoreAI division, which combines teams from Microsoft's Developer Division and AI platform, will be spearheaded by Jay Parikh, the newly appointed Executive Vice President. Parikh, who joined Microsoft after leading engineering efforts at Meta, will oversee the integration of varied skill sets and expertise aimed at bolstering AI capabilities. Nadella notes, "We will build agentic applications with memory, entitlements, and action space... to adapt these capabilities for enhanced performance and safety across roles, business processes, and industry domains."
This initiative signals Microsoft’s commitment to developing what Nadella describes as "agentic applications," which represent a new class of AI tools capable of autonomously analyzing data and executing tasks. By doing so, Microsoft aims to enable more agile workflows and reduce the manual overhead traditionally involved in software development.

He elaborates, "Our AI platform and tools will come together to create agents, and these agents will come together to change every SaaS application category, and building custom applications will be driven by software." Nadella stated, "Azure must become the infrastructure for AI, and we will build our AI platform and developer tools—spanning Azure AI Foundry, GitHub, and VS Code—on top of it."
