Micron Memory Powers Samsung Galaxy S25 Series AI Innovations

The latest smartphones introduce advanced AI capabilities with Micron's LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage, enhancing user experiences and battery efficiency.

Bangalore — Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) has announced the feature of its industry-leading low-power double data rate 5X (LPDDR5X) memory and universal flash storage (UFS) 4.0 in select models of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, released amid growing expectations for mobile AI innovation.

This latest smartphone series, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25, introduces multimodal AI agents aimed at enhancing mobile AI functionalities. At the core of this technological leap is Micron's commitment to power efficiency and performance, with its LPDDR5X memory showing power consumption improvements of over 10%.

Mark Montierth, Micron's corporate vice president and general manager of the Mobile Business Unit, explained, “We’ve optimized Micron’s mobile portfolio to deliver the power efficiency, high performance, and large capacity needed to propel the next wave of AI innovation in flagship smartphones.” Through this focus on efficiency, users can expect longer battery life, which surveys indicate is the foremost aspect consumers prioritize when selecting smartphones.

The evolution of AI capabilities has led to more on-device processing, significantly had to necessitate higher performance memory and storage solutions. Just over 70% of smartphone users now identify battery life as their top consideration when choosing their device.

The LPDDR5X technology is fabricated using 1β (1-beta) process technology, allowing it to operate at voltages lower than the industry standard, effectively contributing to extended battery longevity. Meanwhile, the UFS 4.0 storage not only enhances performance but also offers higher capacities, allowing for local data storage and improving personal data security.

Samsung's contribution cannot be understated. Inkang Song, vice president and head of the technology strategy team at Samsung, stated, “The Galaxy S25 series signifies the next evolution of the mobile AI era — one creating more natural, personalized experiences for users.” This vision portrays the devices as true AI companions, making private and contextual mobile experiences possible.

Since the collaboration between Micron and Samsung began, both companies have sought to refine technologies to meet the distinct demands of on-device AI. The latest innovation follows the successful integration of Micron's memory solutions within the Galaxy S24 lineup, which was also known for its AI-centric features.

Adding to the existing capabilities, the new Galaxy S25 series will operate on the One UI 7, which will usher users through more sophisticated interactions with their devices, including the processing of text, speech, images, and videos through its multimodal AI agents.

On 22 January 2025, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 series at the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event held in San Jose, California. A month later, firm updates are being rolled out across the globe. Initially deployed in South Korea, updates are now available to users across the USA, India, and the UAE.

The update primarily introduced the February security patch, addressing software bugs, and made improvements across native applications. Samsung's Galaxy S25 series now also supports A/B partitioning for seamless software updates, allowing background installations without interrupting user activity.

While the Galaxy S25 Ultra was first to receive this update, other models within the series, including the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, have also begun receiving their first One UI 7 update marked with their respective build numbers.

The changelog for the recent updates includes device stability improvements, bug fixes, and expanded features enhancing performance, ensuring users can enjoy the latest advancements seamlessly.

This integration of advanced memory and storage technology marks a significant shift toward enhancing user experiences, establishing the Samsung Galaxy S25 series at the forefront of mobile technology evolution.

Looking forward, this collaborative effort is expected to shape mobile AI technology, pushing the boundary of what users can expect from their smartphones.
