Michigan Communities Prepare For New Year's Eve Celebrations

Rockport, Whitehall, and Muskegon host diverse events welcoming 2025.

Communities across Michigan are gearing up for vibrant New Year's Eve celebrations as they prepare to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the new year with joy and camaraderie.

Rockport, known for its scenic beauty and small-town charm, will host its annual New Year's Eve festivities culminating with the traditional 2025 ball drop. Thanks to the efforts of the Rockport Fire Department and the dedicated organizers of Rockport New Year's Eve, which was founded back in 1997, the night promises to be filled with arts, music, and plenty of entertainment. Attendees can expect to ring in the new year with the celebratory ambiance typical of this time-honored gathering.

The weather was particularly kind this year, making the outdoor celebrations even more enjoyable. The day after New Year’s Eve on January 1, intrepid participants will brave the chilly waters of Gloucester Harbor for the annual polar plunge, continuing this courageous tradition. "The outdoor temperature was hovering in the mid 40s though it felt a bit colder — especially when standing on the sand in a wet bathing suit after getting out of the ocean," described one local participant, reflecting on the chilly yet exhilarating experience.

Over in the Whitehall and Montague area, families have plenty of options for enjoying their New Year’s Eve. For those with children, the New Year’s Noon Family Party will take place on December 30 at White Lake Community Library, beginning at 11:30 AM. This event invites kids of all ages to join for games, crafts, and festive activities leading up to their own countdown at noon. A balloon drop will add to the excitement as young revelers welcome the new year just before it officially begins.

The Old Channel Inn, celebrating its 125th anniversary, will hold its New Year’s Eve celebration starting at 4 PM on December 31. The Inn will offer its renowned Surf and Turf menu, with the special addition of duck entrée this year, appealing to those seeking a unique dining experience on such a special night. Reservations are strongly advised, as this event is sure to attract both long-time patrons and new guests.

Meanwhile, the Hanson Hill Waterfront Grill will extend its hours on December 31 from 4 PM to 10 PM for a special New Year’s Eve dinner featuring elevated Surf & Turf options along with their standard menu. Live music by Mike Snell from 5-7 PM promises to create the perfect atmosphere for those dining out. Those interested are also encouraged to make reservations to secure their spots for this popular event.

For those wanting to embrace the party vibe, Jimmy’z Pub will be hosting its New Year’s Eve Glow Party starting at 8 PM on December 31. Anticipation is building for this neon-themed event where patrons can don vibrant colors as they revel in karaoke, celebrating the turn of the year come midnight.

Finally, Muskegon is set to make quite the impression with its second annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop on December 31. From 8 PM until midnight, visitors can gather at the corner of W Western and 4th St to experience live entertainment with four DJs and witness the spectacular drop of the eight-foot LED ball at midnight. This year promises to be even bigger than last, with planned enhancements to the fireworks display illuminating the night sky. Local food trucks and businesses will also be ready to serve up festive refreshments, making it the place to be for ringing in 2025.

This New Year’s Eve, as communities come together to celebrate with music, dining, and unforgettable moments, there’s no denying the sense of community spirit and joy. It's poised to be another year full of memories to create and stories to share.
