Michael Patrick Kelly Returns To Sing Meinen Song After Five Years

The twelfth season features emotional performances and personal stories from diverse artists

Michael Patrick Kelly has made a heartfelt return to the popular music show "Sing meinen Song - Das Tauschkonzert" after a five-year hiatus, this time as a participant rather than its host. The twelfth season, which began airing on April 22, 2025, features Kelly alongside a diverse lineup of artists who reinterpret each other's songs in an emotionally charged atmosphere.

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Kelly expressed his excitement about being back on the show, noting how much fun it was to relax and enjoy the experience as a guest. He stated, "It has been a blast to be back after five years. As a guest, I could relax and just enjoy it. As a host, you have more responsibility and need to keep the group together. I love this show. It’s a reality show in the best sense of the word, because what we see is real. It’s not scripted. We musicians are not actors who cry on cue. It’s genuine because you’re moved by the new interpretations. Every time it’s fresh, surprising, overwhelming, and very, very touching."

The show, which airs every Tuesday at 20:15 on Vox and is also available for streaming on RTL+, has become one of the most successful music formats on German television. Each episode focuses on one artist, with the other musicians performing their songs in unique styles, creating a magical blend of genres and emotional moments.

Kelly’s return coincides with the second episode of the season, which aired on April 29, 2025, where he revealed how fellow artist Johannes Oerding brought forth a poignant childhood memory during the show. Kelly shared a touching story about how he stole flowers from other graves to place on his mother's grave after she passed away when he was just five years old. He recounted, "When I was a little boy, I walked to the cemetery to bring flowers for Mother’s Day, but I realized that other graves had beautiful bouquets. So, I took flowers from those graves to put on my mother’s grave. Many years later, I returned with a pickup truck full of flowers to make amends. The villagers cried because they were so touched by the gesture, and they finally knew who the thief was back then!"

This season of "Sing meinen Song" features a mix of established and emerging artists, including Boki (singer of ClockClock), Bosse, FiNCH, Madeline Juno, and Mieze Katz (MiA.). Notably, the iconic hip-hop group Die Fantastischen Vier will join as special guests in the third episode.

Each episode not only showcases musical talent but also fosters personal connections among the artists. Kelly emphasized the importance of these relationships, stating, "The magic of this show is that seven strangers come together and quickly become friends, all because of the music. It’s really crazy. Friendships form that last beyond the show. For example, I’m still very close with Gentleman."

As the show progresses, viewers can expect a variety of songs performed in unique styles. Kelly, who performed his new single "The One" for the first time during the show, shared that the song celebrates enduring love through difficult times. He explained, "In a relationship, no one is perfect. But staying together, even when it’s tough, and trying to bring out the best in each other is powerful. I find that the consistency and perseverance foster growth, just like in sports."

The twelfth season of "Sing meinen Song" promises to deliver emotional highs as each artist interprets the works of their peers, creating a blend of heartfelt performances and personal stories. The show’s format remains a winning recipe: a relaxed setting where musicians share their life experiences and reimagine each other's songs.

As for the future, Kelly has been married for almost 15 years and shared his thoughts on maintaining a happy relationship, saying, "I believe honest communication is crucial. You have to make the relationship a priority, not just another project on the side. Each person’s journey is important and relevant, and there should be no second fiddle in a partnership. I don’t have a secret; it’s always a bit of mystery in interpersonal relationships. That’s why I sing in the song: 'This is a love song, forever in the making.'"

As the season unfolds, fans can look forward to the following episode schedule: Episode 1 featured Bosse on April 22, Episode 2 focused on Michael Patrick Kelly on April 29, Episode 3 will showcase Die Fantastischen Vier on May 6, followed by Mieze Katz on May 13, FiNCH on May 20, Boki on May 27, and Madeline Juno on June 3. The season will culminate in a duets evening on June 10, where all artists will perform together.

With its unique blend of music, storytelling, and emotional connections, "Sing meinen Song - Das Tauschkonzert" continues to resonate with audiences, proving that music truly has the power to bring people together.
