Former England international Michael Owen has become the first customer of Leapmotor's C10 electric vehicle, as the Chinese automaker officially enters the UK market. With its launch set for March 1, 2023, the C10 promises to offer advanced technology and premium comfort at a competitive price of £36,500.
The Leapmotor C10 is positioned as a mid-size SUV (D-segment) featuring cutting-edge technology and high safety standards, along with impressive mileage of up to 263 miles under the WLTP standard. Owen, who is now 45 and also involved in horse breeding, expressed his excitement about being the C10's debut customer. "I’m really pleased to be the first customer of Leapmotor here in the UK. The C10 looks fantastic and suits me and my family perfectly. With its futuristic tech, spacious interior, and high safety standards, it’s just what we need," he stated.
Damien Dally, managing director of Leapmotor UK, noted the significance of Owen’s endorsement for the brand. "Michael Owen is one of the greatest footballers this country has ever seen, so this is a significant signing for our brand. At Leapmotor, we believe we have something exciting for the UK automotive market. The C10 and the T03 offer unrivaled value to customers, showcasing advanced technology, exceptional quality, and the driving confidence backed by our accredited dealer network along with a four-year warranty," he said.
The C10 is part of Leapmotor's strategic collaboration with Stellantis, the owner of major car brands like Vauxhall and Peugeot, which brings nearly 120 years of automotive experience to the table. This partnership enables Leapmotor to leverage Stellantis’s extensive global operations spanning over 130 markets and manufacturing bases across more than 30 countries, ensuring customers receive top-notch quality and reliability.
Leapmotor has vowed to revolutionize the UK market by providing sophisticated electric vehicles, emphasizing value and advanced features. "Customers are excited about the shift to EVs, and Leapmotor is here to meet those expectations with products like the C10 and T03, both equipped with premium specifications at attractive price points," Dally added.
The anticipation surrounding the C10's release reflects growing interest and demand for electric vehicles as Britain aims for significant reductions in carbon emissions. Owen's purchase symbolizes not just personal investment but also highlights the increasing acceptance of electric vehicles among prominent figures.
This launch is seen as pivotal within the EV sector, promising to enliven the competitive automotive space and aiming to attract consumers who are increasingly eco-conscious but also seeking value and quality. Leapmotor hopes to carve out its niche with its inaugural offerings and distinguish itself from established brands operating within the UK.
The C10 and its smaller sibling, the T03, which is expected to retail for less than £16,000, showcase Leapmotor’s commitment to providing affordable yet high-quality electric vehicles. Dally remarked on the significance of launching high-quality vehicles capable of meeting benchmarks set by traditional automotive manufacturers.
With electric vehicles rapidly becoming the focal point of the automotive industry, Leapmotor’s entry introduces not just competition but also options for consumers whom cost-effectiveness and advanced features matter. The C10's imminent arrival on UK roads promises to alter perceptions of what electric vehicles can offer and who they can serve.
With stakeholders from Owen to enterprise executives keeping their eyes on Leapmotor’s performance, this launch signifies much more than just the introduction of another car to the market. It is emblematic of shifting consumer preferences and the unrelenting push toward sustainable transportation solutions as the automotive world gears up for its electrified future.
