Mexico Starts 2025-2026 Basic Education Pre-Enrollment

Authorities urge parents to prepare for the registration process to secure school placements for their children.

The countdown has begun for parents across Mexico as the pre-registration period for basic education for the 2025-2026 school year approaches. Different states are gearing up for the task with specific timelines and requirements.

According to the Secretaría de Educación Pública de Hidalgo (SEPH), the pre-registration for new students entering the second and third grades of preschool, first grade of primary, and first grade of secondary school will occur from February 4 to February 14, 2025. Parents are urged to complete this process online at the official SEPH website to secure their child’s educational future.

Miguel Ángel Hernández Espejel, head of the Secretaría de Educación, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SECTI) in the State of Mexico, highlighted the importance of this initiative via the System Anticipado de Inscripción y Distribución (SAID). The online pre-registration opens from February 10 to March 21. The process aims to facilitate access to education for children and adolescents, as he stated, "For the Government of Maestra Delfina Gómez Álvarez, education is key to dignified life and a fairer society; this call reinforces this commitment."

Each state will have slightly different procedures. For example, the SEPH notes the necessary documents required for pre-registration include, but are not limited to, the student’s birth certificate, CURP, proof of residence, and corresponding identification of the parents or guardians. The age requirements are stringent; for preschool, children must turn three by December 31, 2025, and for primary, they must be six by the same date.

Ensuring your child is placed correctly means parents should be aware of the application mechanics. For lasting results, Miguel Ángel Hernández recommended downloading and printing the pre-registration form for consulting results, stating the need to familiarize oneself with the process described on the official website. This includes accepting terms concerning personal data treatment, which signals the need for transparency and security throughout the process.

The cut-off dates for pre-registration are as follows: for preschool, from February 10 to 21; primary from February 24 to March 7; and secondary from March 10 to 21. Special attention will be directed to students who may have siblings already attending the selected schools, which can influence application approval.

The heads of education sectors are aware of the high demand, particularly for schools with limited spaces. León Vite of SEPH reported there were 22,686 preschool applications and 48,534 for secondary schools last year. Therefore, timely applications can make all the difference.

The process is not just mechanical, though; it symbolizes hope for many families eager to secure their children’s future within the educational framework. Results will be posted on the SEPH website on July 16, 2025. Parents can check their status using their pre-registration folio and CURP number.

With the importance of pre-registration underscored, educational authorities are putting measures in place to manage the expected web traffic during peak application times. Plans to avoid system overload similar to previous years have been emphasized, with both system tests and increased server capacities being prioritized.

For parents across communities, the message is straightforward: seize the moment. Whether it is logging onto the online platforms or visiting their local school, every effort counts. The commitment of SEPH to avoid delays and miscommunication is reassuring, as they strive to create pathways for education.

The pre-registration process ensures students from various backgrounds can look forward to the upcoming academic year. This process is not merely administrative but fundamental to securing their educational opportunities, laying the groundwork for their future endeavors. Parents are encouraged to stay informed and follow these new regulations closely to avoid any missteps.
