Mexico Launches New Payment Schedule For Senior Benefits

The government allocates over 88 billion pesos to support millions of vulnerable citizens in May and June.

The government of Mexico continues to support various sectors of the population in need of social assistance through its programs. One of the key initiatives is the Pensión del Bienestar, managed by the Secretariat of Welfare, which provides bimonthly support to individuals aged 65 and older. For the May-June 2025 bimester, beneficiaries of the program will receive a payment of 6,200 pesos, with the exception of those residing in Durango and Veracruz due to the ongoing election campaigns in those states.

Ariadna Montiel, the Secretary of Welfare, shared the disbursement schedule for this bimester, which will take place from May 7 to May 30, 2025. This payment will benefit approximately 12 million 709 thousand 260 older adults, along with other vulnerable groups such as women, people with disabilities, and working mothers, through a total social investment of 88 billion 477.6 million pesos.

According to Montiel, the payments will be disbursed based on the first letter of the beneficiary's last name. The specific dates are as follows: those whose last names start with the letter A will receive their payments on Wednesday, May 7; B on Thursday, May 8; C on Friday, May 9, and Monday, May 12; D, E, and F on Tuesday, May 13; G on Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15; H, I, J, and K on Friday, May 16; L on Monday, May 19; M on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21; N, Ñ, and O on Thursday, May 22; P and Q on Friday, May 23; R on Monday, May 26, and Tuesday, May 27; S on Wednesday, May 28; T, U, and V on Thursday, May 29; and W, X, Y, and Z on Friday, May 30.

It is important to note that there will be no payments on Saturdays during May 2025, a change from previous months when disbursements occurred on those days.

In addition to the older adult pension, the program also supports other demographics. For instance, one million 107 thousand 69 women will receive the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar, with an investment of 2 billion 831.6 million pesos. Furthermore, 1 million 364 thousand 181 individuals with disabilities are set to receive their pension payments, totaling 4 billion 365.4 million pesos. Working mothers will also benefit, with 163 thousand 681 mothers receiving payments through a social investment of 275.7 million pesos.

Moreover, the Sembrando Vida program will provide payments to 423 thousand 227 planters, amounting to 2 billion 207.5 million pesos. Montiel emphasized that the payments will be made directly through the Banco del Bienestar cards, ensuring that beneficiaries receive their funds without intermediaries.

While the Pensión para el Bienestar de las Personas Adultas Mayores has been a constitutional right for five years, beneficiaries must remain vigilant to avoid losing their payments. Several factors could lead to disqualification from the program, including errors in identification data, failure to collect payments for two consecutive bimesters, and potential duplications in the system. Beneficiaries are also required to inform the Secretariat of Welfare in the event of their passing, which will halt the bimonthly payments but will provide a one-time funeral payment of 3,100 pesos.

For those interested in checking their payment dates, they can visit the official website of the Secretariat of Welfare. The website provides detailed information about payment schedules and the locations of Banco del Bienestar branches.

As the May-June 2025 disbursement approaches, beneficiaries are encouraged to stay informed about these changes and ensure their compliance with the program's requirements to continue receiving their much-needed support.

Overall, this social investment aims to improve the quality of life for millions of Mexicans, particularly those in vulnerable situations, and reinforces the government's commitment to social welfare.
