Mexican Government Expands Student Welfare Programs

New initiatives assist students at various educational levels across Mexico.

The Government of Mexico has initiated various economic support programs directed at students at all educational levels nationwide. Among these programs is the "Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro" scholarship, aimed at helping higher education students in Mexico. This initiative seeks to assist students enrolled in public institutions categorized as priority, thereby reducing school dropout rates and promoting equity in access to higher education.

Recipients of the "Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro" scholarship receive financial support of 5,800 pesos every two months, which translates to 2,900 pesos per month. This support is provided for ten months during the school year, excluding July and August, which are designated as vacation months. Each student may receive the scholarship for up to 45 months, provided they meet the established requirements and apply for renewal during each call. For students studying Medicine, the support can extend up to 55 months.

Recently, the Coordination of the National Scholarships for Well-Being, Benito Juárez (CNBBBJ), announced important details about the "Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro" scholarship through its official social media channels. For those interested, registration for this scholarship is currently open, running from February 10 to February 28, 2025. Students wishing to apply must access the Unique System of Beneficiaries of Higher Education (SUBES) at subes.becasbenitojuarez.gob.mx, where they will create an account using their CURP and email address. Once registered, applicants will need to complete their profiles with personal and academic information relevant to the current school year.

On another front, the "Beca Rita Cetina" has begun its card delivery phase, aimed at families with children enrolled in basic education. Julio León, the national coordinator of Scholarships for Well-Being, recently confirmed the imminent release of the first payments for this scholarship. The program offers 1,900 pesos bimonthly per family and 700 pesos for each additional secondary school student.

Families can receive this financial aid for the ten months of the school year, with the possibility of extending it for up to 30 months as long as they fulfill the requirements set out within the current operational rules. Cards from Banco del Bienestar are being distributed from February 5 to March 28, allowing many families to be ready for their first payment, which will begin to be disbursed starting March. León noted, though, the cards are already activated and the beneficiaries only need to change their PIN at any Banco del Bienestar ATM.

To stay updated on when payments will be issued, beneficiaries are encouraged to follow the official social media accounts of the CNBBBJ and check the dedicated program page. The directives shared highlight the importance of staying informed to efficiently navigate the process and receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

Further, the registration for the "Benito Juárez" scholarship has also opened for students attending public high schools. This scholarship program aims to support secondary school students nationwide, with the registration closing on February 28, 2025. Approved candidates will receive 1,900 pesos every two months across five bimonths during the school year, excluding July and August due to summer vacation.

Registering for the "Beca Benito Juárez" scholarship is straightforward, with applicants needing to prepare specific official documents digitally. Those underage must submit documents pertaining to their parent or guardian. The process is fully digital and comprises three main steps: logging onto the official scholarship website, registering student details, and entering parent or guardian information.

Prospective students are required to prepare various documents including CURP, contact details, proof of studies, work center key (CCT), and recent proof of residence. Once the registration is submitted, it undergoes verification, and inconsistencies may lead to disqualification from the process.

To ascertain scholarship status, applicants can check the results using their CURP on the School Status Checker linked on the official website. Should the status show as "Active," it confirms they have successfully secured the scholarship. The assistance line is available for any inquiries from Monday to Friday during designated hours.
