At the dawn of 2025, the Mexican Church has put forth its heartfelt aspirations for the nation's future, articulately expressed as twelve wishes aimed at fostering harmony, well-being, and justice. This initiative, announced by the Archdiocese of Mexico during its recent Sunday editorial, "Desde la Fe", calls upon all sectors of society to collaborate and realize the collective dream of making Mexico a safer, more compassionate, and equitable place.
The first wish emphasizes the need for peace. The Church aspires for Mexico to become a haven where families can thrive without fear, where safety permeates streets, homes, and public spaces. To achieve this, the Church urges authorities to implement comprehensive strategies to combat violence effectively.
The second desire centers around health, advocating for accessible healthcare for all, characterized by dignity and respect. The Church highlights the importance of addressing mental health, improving hospitals significantly, and fostering solidarity among citizens, especially for those most vulnerable.
Next on the list is the call for justice, with the Church demanding an impartial and swift legal system. They urge authorities to apply laws with utmost responsibility and plead with citizens to act with honesty and integrity in their daily interactions.
“We must transform social divisions,” the Church states, identifying the fourth wish as unity. Here, the Church envisions strengthening societal bonds through collaboration to build a resilient Mexico.
Fifth, progress toward family integration is highlighted, underscoring the importance of nurturing strong family ties and promoting core values like respect and solidarity.
“Acts of charity toward the less fortunate should become the norm” is the sixth wish articulated by the Church, aiming to instill compassion and support for marginalized communities throughout the country.
The seventh demand is respect for migrants. The Church calls for Mexico to become sensitive to the hardships faced by migrants, treating them with dignity and recognizing their plight as akin to familial suffering.
Care for children makes it to the eighth position. The Church expresses the need for every child to enjoy a happy and protected childhood, emphasizing education, health, and ample opportunities for holistic development.
Ninth on the list is accompanying victims of violence, particularly those who have lost loved ones. The Church implores for emotional, legal, and social support for these families, ensuring they receive respectful and dignified treatment from both authorities and fellow citizens.
Equity between genders is the tenth wish, where the Church calls for recognition of women's contributions to family and society, advocating for equal opportunities for development and creating equitable environments.
Next, the Church invokes the need for respect for human life, wishing for every life to be valued from conception to natural death.
Lastly, the twelfth wish focuses on environmental stewardship, urging meaningful actions to safeguard natural resources and promote responsible practices across households, schools, and through effective public policies.
The Archdiocese invites all Mexicans to pray for the intercession of the Virgin of Guadalupe, asking for divine guidance and strength to actualize these twelve visions for the year 2025. “Let’s commit to fostering these aspirations together,” they concluded, emphasizing the collective responsibility of building the Mexico citizens aspire to.
