Meta has reportedly introduced a new feature, "Write with Meta AI," on Instagram, allowing users to enhance their commenting experience using artificial intelligence.
This innovative tool, observed by an Australian user on X who goes by the handle @jonah_manzano, enables Instagram users to write comments with the assistance of AI technology. The feature appears as a pencil icon next to the text bar under posts and can analyze images to suggest comments based on visual content.
Manzano shared a video demonstrating the functionality of the tool, where it analyzes a photo and proposes three comment suggestions. For example, in a snapshot showing a man smiling and giving a thumbs-up in his living room, the AI suggested comments such as “cute living room setup,” “love the cozy atmosphere,” and “great photo shoot location.”
Despite the excitement surrounding this new feature, it has yet to be rolled out in Singapore as of March 24, 2025, leaving users curious about its availability.
This introduction of AI-generated content is not the first for Meta in 2025. Earlier in January, the tech giant launched a suite of AI-generated accounts on Facebook and Instagram, one notable account being "Liv," who identifies as a “proud black queer momma of 2.” Liv’s account gained attention for its AI-generated profile that emphasized its role as a “truth-teller” and a source of genuine insight into everyday life.
While these initiatives showcase Meta's commitment to integrating AI into user interactions, the launch of the AI-generated accounts received mixed reactions. Following Liv's emergence on social media, sentiment analysis indicated a notable dip in Meta's reputation, as users expressed skepticism towards the motivations behind such accounts. Critics argued that these AI personas were driven more by profit and user engagement metrics rather than fostering genuine community interactions.
Media intelligence firm CARMA pointed out that netizens voiced concerns about AI-generated profiles potentially misleading both advertisers and users regarding the authenticity of engagement. While some herald the advancement of AI tools as a creative opportunity, others remain wary of the implications for social media dynamics.
In light of this mixed feedback, Meta's ongoing journey with artificial intelligence will likely continue attracting scrutiny, particularly regarding how these features influence user experiences and engagement levels.
As companies navigate this swiftly evolving AI landscape, events such as the upcoming Content360 on April 23-24 serve to educate and engage marketers on harnessing creative technology responsibly. These discussions will focus on themes like challenging norms and unlocking imagination in a digital age.
For now, users await further developments and the potential broader rollout of new AI features like Meta's comment suggestions.
