"Two chats that look identical can have totally different implications in terms of privacy," he warned.
On Threads, even if users choose to ignore AI, it continues to observe and shape their experiences. Warmenhoven advocates for universal opt-in and opt-out functions for responsible AI deployment, stating, "For responsible AI deployment, universal opt-in and opt-out functions are needed. A setting that allows people to turn AI functions on and off across all Meta platforms is essential." He concluded that AI can coexist with privacy only if companies like Meta prioritize transparency, consent, and security. "Without this, trust disappears, and with it, the long-term value of AI," he said.
Meanwhile, Apple is taking a different route in its AI strategy. The tech giant announced an initiative to enhance the efficiency of its language models while ensuring user privacy.
