Mesternes Mester 2024 Set To Showcase Star Athletes

Upcoming reality TV season features diverse participants and emotional stories

Norwegian reality TV fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the popular series Mesternes Mester, scheduled to debut on January 1, 2024. The show, which brings together renowned athletes from various fields, is set to showcase not only fierce competition but also intimate moments as the participants navigate their personal journeys.

Among this season’s standout contestants is Tarik Elyounoussi, 36, who expressed his excitement and nerves about participating. "So far outside my comfort zone, but it promises to be good," he remarked, indicating both his anticipation and anxiety for the experience. Having played for over 80,000 spectators at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, he noted, "This is something with much greater nerves involved," highlighting the unique challenge posed by the reality competition.

Elyounoussi is set to join a remarkable cast of athletes whose accomplishments span numerous sports, including football, skiing, boxing, and climbing. The roster features Simen Agdestein, 57, skilled in both football and chess, freestyle footballer Tobias Becs, 32, and ski legend Hedda Berntsen, 48, who recently stepped back onto the competitive stage after her illustrious career. "It’s a privilege to be here," Berntsen stated, reflecting her excitement for the show.

The filming took place during the summer of 2024, with Elyounoussi describing it as creating bonds within the group. "During the 19 days we were gathered, we became like one big family," he told Fredriksstad Blad. This sense of camaraderie among the participants is expected to play out onscreen, providing viewers with TV moments filled with both competitiveness and friendship.

Bringing together personalities from various sporting backgrounds offers fans of the show the chance to witness their favorites compete anew. The diverse lineup aims to capture the attention of audience members whether they are drawn to football, hiking, or artistic sports. "A really cool mix of participants," remarked the show’s host Aksel Lund Svindal as the filming commenced.

More than just showcasing achievements, Mesternes Mester offers personal revelations and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the contestants’ lives. For example, Elyounoussi shared insights about his growing family. He and his partner are expecting their fourth child, due on April 9. He humorously referred to the child as their "peace child," jokingly reflecting on the timing of the birth date, which coincides with significant historical events.

"You hope she goes just past due date so the child is born on Liberation Day, May 8," added Elyounoussi. His comments underline the light-hearted yet significant meanings behind their family decisions, showcasing the emotional humor intertwined with the competitive spirit of the show. The couple has three children: Selma, 5, Zakaria, 3, and Saya, 1, with Selma already counting down the days until her father appears on television.

Participants also include accomplished athletes such as Kristin Harila, 38, renowned for her feats in mountain climbing, and Kai Robin Havnaa, 35, champion boxer. Other notable contestants comprise Johanne Killi, 27, hailing from the world of freestyle skiing; 40-year-old Erlend Mamelund, known for his handball skills; and Fatima Pinto, 46, who brings expertise from the world of Thai boxing. This blend of talent from different disciplines is set to provide excitement through competition.

Spectators are primed for the displays of resilience, athleticism, and personal growth, as Mesternes Mester dives deep beyond sports. Through laughter, tears, and perhaps even some unexpected moments of vulnerability, the show aims to resonate with fans across Norway and beyond. With the inaugural episode just around the corner, anticipation is high as viewers prepare to watch their favorite athletes face new challenges both physically and emotionally.
